Yesterday Theresa’s sister and her family arrived for a week long visit. This morning we caught the bus into Las Americas and showed them the tourist sites and what Tenerife has to offer in that area. The weather was warm for the day at a comfortable 28 degrees. We walked for two or three miles and our visitors bought a rubber ring and ball to use in our swimming pool. After lunch we caught the bus home and our guests enjoyed an unusually quiet swimming pool. Visited our favourite Chinese restaurant in Las Galletas for an enjoyable family meal. ... read more

Llano Del Camello means land of camels in Spanish. Our apartment is a two bedroom penthouse in Llano Del Camello. It has a balcony to the South that has medium sized balcony with a clear sea view. To the rear it has a clear view of the mountains and Mount Teide. We have a reserved parking space in an underground secured car park. We nearly always have a warm healthy wind blowing through the flat which negates the need for using the air con. Llano del Camello is just north of Las Chafiras East of Los Cristianos. Llano del Camello was built during the last property boom. It is in the municipality of San Miguel de Abona. The north part of the estate is residential with the south, next to the motorway, being mainly industrial. There ... read more

Here in Tenerife, today is the longest day. It has been 33 degress for the past two days. We had been informed of many celebrations that were to take part on the local beaches, and had thought we would get a view of the fireworks from our balcony. What happened though took us totally by surprise. As the light was fading at about 8.30pm we notices too very large fires, one in the waste land next to the unfinished shopping centre next to our complex. We watched as these were joined by many smaller fires all around the area. There appeared to be a lack of any fire engines to put out these fires. By 9pm, we could actually see the flames of the fire nearest to us so we decided to take a short walk ... read more

Our Dallas friends are going home today. They have a coach organised to bring them back to the airport from their hotel in Los Gigantes. We took the car to the airport and met them there. Whilst there we also sent off a letter from the local post office in the airport. We saw our friends through check-in and said our farewells. Not sure when we will see them again, but are hoping that they may be able to get down to us when we do our Caribbean tour in October. We stopped on the way home for lunch, but got home in time to see our friends plane take off over El Medano mountain. They fly home to USA in a week or so. We understand the weather in UK today is wet and windy ... read more

Our guests enjoyed the market on Sunday so much they asked to go to another one, so this morning we are heading to Torviscas market. We drove to the market area and managed to get a small space for the car. We had breakfast in a café across from the market followed by a leisurely walk around the market. Our guests have bought a few more items to take back to Dallas with them. We then walked to San Eugenio which was only a couple of miles along the beach. There we took our guests to a good value shop to buy their alcohol to take home and also to a typical Spanish Mercadona supermarket. We then took a bus back to where we had parked the car. This was a much more relaxing experience that ... read more

After a very early breakfast, we headed off towards Puerto de le Cruz for our visit to Loro Park. We had been unsure which route to take this morning but opted for the mountain west coast road. It was very windy and mountainous, but a real experience. Arrived at Loro Park about 9.30. Since we have arrived in Tenerife we have been saving our 2 euro coins. Today we were able to buy two annual passes to Loro Park with the monies saved. A good investment we think. It doesn’t matter how many times we come here, we still see something new each time. Saw the Orca (Killer Whale) show this time and the first introduction of the new baby born in October. Did the discovery tour again which was run by the same guide as ... read more

Got to los Gigantes at about 7.30 to collect our friends and head off for Mount Teide. We have never driven the road from here, so have no idea what it will be like. Although it was, like most of the roads in Tenerife, bendy and windy, the journey this morning was a good one. We got a view of the volcanic mountain that we have not had before. Driving in this area is like a lunar landscape. There are many many banana plantations on the Island which you regularly drive past. Stopped in a small village on route for breakfast and coffee in a typical Spanish café. We took the cable car nearly to the top of the mountain. Luckily, we had our NIE forms with us this time so we able to take advantage ... read more

We were supposed to be going up to Mount Teide today, but we both had bad nights and woke up tired. As it is quite a complicated drive there, we have decided to cancel until tomorrow. Went to Los Gigantes and met our friends as planned, but spent the day in the quiet town relaxing. In the afternoon, we took a boat out Whale watching. There were only seven of us on the boat for an hour and a half. We would definitely do this trip again. At only 10 Euros it was perfect. They also do an afternoon dolphin watching but we decided that we would try that another time. This was a rather private and exclusive trip without the normal volume of tourists on a bigger boat. Just brilliant. Had a relaxing lunch then ... read more

Decided that it was safer to drive today after yesterdays experience on the bus. Got to Los Gigantes at about 8am this morning and joined our friends for breakfast in their hotel. Then we drove back to Los Cristianos to the market there. Our friends brought many items that they could easily take back to Dallas with them. Whilst there, we also managed to negotiate a good price for George the Giant wood carved Giraffe. We have been waiting for an opportunity like this to purchase the 4 foot high model and had already named it before getting it home. Bartering provided a handsome discount. Went for lunch in our local Chinese restaurant in Costa del Silencio then drove back to Los Gigantes to drop off our friends. Had a little confusion with the landlord of ... read more

This morning we drove from home to Los Gigantes to meet our friends from Dallas. We joined them on their tour rep meeting and then went to a local café for coffee. Whilst there we saw a hen group walking towards the beach caring many inflatable objects. Some of these items were interesting to say the least. As our guests had shown an early interest in using the local public transport, we thought today would be a good day to do this. We took the 473 Titsa bus from Los Gigantes to Las Americas. As the bus was still very empty when we boarded, we suggested that they may like to take up the empty front seats so that they could see more. This was a decision that we were going to regret. It would appear ... read more
