Left the apartment at 8.30am for the walk to the bus stop. Off to the market this morning in Torviscas. We managed to walk all the way round the market and not buy anything – that was a first. Walked from Torviscas to Las Americas – about 3 miles along the beach. Major waves today, even the surfers thought it was rough. Got a little wet. Had lunch at bar run by an English couple. Were talking to them about going the following day to get our Residencia and NIE from the Police Station. They recommended someone to help us do this. And the arrangement was made that he would meet us at the station at 9am tomorrow morning. Phoned Telefonica to try to get the phone and internet working. Phone now working, but internet is ... read more

Had a lazy morning. Went to Iceland to pick up some items we forgot from the supermarket yesterday, then took the car back to the airport. Got the bus back and then had the half mile walk back to the apartment Sorted the apartment out to put our stamp on it. Hung up all the clothes and ironed those that needed it. Went to Las Americas for dinner. Realised that the bus we caught here stops running at 7.45pm and it is now 8.30pm. Had to get a bus to Los Christianos and then the airport bus from there. Then we had to do the half mile walk up hill to get home. Our legs are starting to show signs of all this walking. ... read more

We have an early start this morning. Ryanair flight at 6.40am from Stanstead to Tenerife. Stanstead is a two hour drive away from home. Arrived at Tenerife on time and hired a car for the drive to the new apartment, It has now been furnished and looks just like we wanted it. As we only have the car for one day, we had a lot to do in that time. We have decided to buy a new TV in Tenerife rather than the option of bringing our UK one with us. Went to a local store recommended by our new landlord and bought a 42” internet enabled one and brought it home. We also went to visit Makro which we had seen nearby on a recent bus journey. This is a very small store and we ... read more

Spanish Authorities and the UK Embassy have released a joint statement confirming several sightings in Tenerife of a British man last seen in Poynton, Cheshire on the evening of Jan 3rd. Steve Dennis, a self employed Interim Manager, is now thought to be occupying an apartment in the resort of Island Village in the Torviscas area. He is believed to be alone. A neighbouring German couple say they have seen a man matching Mr Dennis's description leaving apartment 344 every morning at 9.00am in just a pair of shorts and trainers. "Ze first two mornings he had a bike, after vich he was running, trekking or somezing. He looked very appy" said Heinz Beence. Mr Dennis, a divorced father of two, is known for his particular distaste of the English winter. A colleague at his place ... read more

British detectives in Tenerife looking for the exiled British divorcee Steve Dennis from Cheshire have reported a major breakthrough in this case. Despite surrounding the apartment Mr Dennis is believed to be occupying on several previous occassions, only to find it vacant, acting on information provided by his 17 year old son James, they forcibly entered the premises at around 12.20pm last Saturday to find Mr Dennis de-bearding a 1kg bag of fresh mussells whilst watching Football Focus on BBC1 with a glass of white wine. There was no struggle and after cooking a nice lunch on the terrace for the detectives, Mr Dennis was led away for questionning. During a subsequent search of the premises no illegal substances were found although the official report makes reference to a large supply of PG Tips tea bags ... read more

For something completely different, some friends and I decided to take up scuba diving. Lukcily, the Canary Islands are the perfect location for beginners, so far we've seen innumerable fish, rays, octopi and sea turtles... and we've only been twice! My favourite spot was Puertito, which has a friendly colony of sea turtles. They came right up to us, incredibly inquisitive, and played with the bubbles from our oxygen tanks. You could even see the turtles when just going snorkelling, if you're lucky! ... read more

So, I've now been in the Canary Islands for four months and have fallen in love with the place! Having initially dismissed this beautiful Archipelago as a bit of a trashy tourist destination, I have had to completely rethink my opinion of the place! I am living in San Cristobal de La Laguna, a world heritage site and student town, and having the time of my life. So far I have spent my time trying to immerse myself in the incredibly rich canarian culture; learning salsa, joing a choir in my local community centre, taking a scuba diving cours... the list goes on! See my entries for details on what I've been up to and hopefull for some ideas for yourself! ... read more

So, to get a feel for the native culture, we went to watch the procession outside the Conception Church in La Laguna. It was an impressive event, hundreds of canarian people, huge floats and a warm family feeling. What I liked most was the fact that there were people of all ages watching and participating. Everybody took time off work and studying and came out onto the streets. Well worth seeing, if you get a chance! ... read more
