George took the car to our local ITV (Spanish equivalent of the MOT) station as the first step to getting the car registered in Spain. No issues were found with it. At one point, the car completely surrounded by bemused Spanish engineers how the came came to be in Tenerife. Found out today that as we exported the car within two months of buying it new we can claim the UK VAT back. We will have to pay 5% IGIC in Tenerife instead though. IGIC Tenerife VAT. Double taxation. Went for lunch at a local Spanish café then went gokarting. This was the first time either of our guests have ever been go karting. They had a great time. This will definitely be on the agenda for their next visit in November / December. Our visitors ... read more

A nice early start today and we were at the park at 9.30am. As our guests have another visit booked for later in the year, they have bought a season ticket which allows them multiple entries for a very good price. We treated them to the discovery tour. They did not really want to go on it, but afterwards were very pleased that they had. This tour takes you round behind the scenes into areas like the sleeping quarters and the kitchens. We went to the Orca (Killer whale) show, the dolphin show and the parrot show. All of the shows at the park are really good. We have seen them all before, but it does not matter how many times we see them, they are still enjoyable. As food in the park is quite expensive ... read more

As we have only got a small car, today we borrowed a car from one of our friends. We managed to load all the cabinets into it that we had bought from Ikea back in April. We would have had to take them apart if we had tried to put them into our car. Managed to move a few other bits over at the same time. Our guests tried out the beach near to the villa today. They only lasted about 10 minutes and had to leave as the wind covered them in sand. Most of the east coast of Tenerife is fairly windy, ideal for surfing but not quite so for sun bathing. Went to one of our favourite Chinese restaurants this evening for a meal that was enjoyed by us all. ... read more

Had a lazy day today. Theresa had Spanish lessons first thing so our guests and George went to a local café for coffee. On the way there we were stopped for the first time by the Spanish police (Guardia Civil) The asked to see our residentias and passports for all four of us. They then asked about why the car was still on UK licence plates. We explained that this was in the process of being changed. Once we showed them the card of the man that is doing this for us, they were very happy for us to go on our way. All very polite and civil. After the Spanish lessons we went to the villa to show our guests for the first time. They were able to help us sort out some of the ... read more

This trip had been planned for some months, and just happened to fall the week following the purchase of the villa. We spent the morning at the villa doing some final preparation in case we stayed there during our guests visit, then went home and gave the apartment a clean in preparation for their visit. Our guests had joked to us in recent days about meeting them at the airport with a welcome plaque, so this is exactly what we did. We created an authentic board with thier names on. We had them, and everyone else at the airport, with our strange handmade welcome board, but it was well accepted by our guests. ... read more

Having been in Tenerife for a few months now, we decided that this is where we wanted to make our permanent home. Having thought carefully about it, we decided that the noise levels at the apartment did not give us the desired restful life that we are thriving for, so looked elsewhere for a more compatible home. Three long months of the Spanish School holidays can be pretty noisy at times. The original plan was for an apartment, similar to the one we are currently living in, but that had less noise and more outside space. Then the estate agent showed us a villa with four bedrooms and was five minutes from the sea. The owners were desperate for a quick move back to the UK, so took a ridiculous offer for the property. The offer ... read more

Had a lazy morning then our guests went to the local shops to finish the holiday shopping. We met up at a local café and had a light lunch. From there we went Go Karting in Parque de le Reina near to where we live. This was a good stress reliever for everyone. We will definitely do this again and buy a discounted season / resident’s ticket. In the evening, we went to the ‘Bahamas 11’ steak restaurant in Torviscas for dinner to celebrate one of our guests 18th birthday that was in May. Our final night amidst a great sun set. The week has passed speedily. ... read more

Today’s plan was to go to Los Gigantes to go whale watching with the same company we used a couple of weeks ago. After our previous experience of the buses to Los Gigantes, we were heading for the express 477 bus that takes only about three quarters of an hour. We arrived at Los Cristianos at about 8.45am for the 9.00am bus, only to find that the express bus does not run on a Saturday. Following that, we decided instead to look for a boat ride from Las Americas and took the bus to San Eugenio and walked to Puerto Colon Port. We found a 2 hour ride at a negotiated price of 18 Euros each. Sounded perfect. We had time to have a quick coffee and a bite to eat before the boat left at ... read more

As we had three visitors, we were unable to take the car to Loro Park, so we tried it for the first time by bus. The express 343 bus from the south to the north does not stop locally to us, but does stop at the Tenerife South airport nearby. We left home at 8.00am with the intention of catching the 9.00am bus from the airport. Unfortunately, on arrival there, we found that the 9.00am bus does not actually stop at the airport, so had to wait for the 10am one. Another nice excuse to have coffee and cakes etc. Arrived at Puerto de la Cruz at about 11.30am then had a 10 minute walk before we eventually got to Loro Park. We went to the parrot, sea lion, orca killer whales and dolphin shows and ... read more
