I didn’t do too much today outside of going to my Italian classes. The only special thing I did today was go to the supermarket in a different part of Perugia and figure out where everything is. We went with our class so we could learn more about where everything is located and how to ask for things. We have to take the Mini Metro to get there, which was fun. It was very helpful because now I know how the Mini Metro works and where each stop will take me. The last stop will lead me to the area in the city where the markets are every Saturday, but I’m going to try to hold back on going to one just yet. I want to try to save as much money as I can for ... read more

I've been slacking a lot when it comes to posting, but I'm really going to try to post every day from now on. I promised myself and my dad that I would keep a log of everything that I do, so I'll get better. This past week hasn't been too interesting, as classes started. I've been busy with my school work and trying to figure out travel plans. I went to Pisa on Saturday with some girls from school, and it was so much fun. We were able to switch trains without any problems and never got off at the wrong stop (which was my worst fear). We also bought tickets to climb the Leaning Tower! It was so much fun, I can't believe that I had never been able to do it before. I loved ... read more

"Thank God it's Thursday." Even though it's now Friday, that's my new favorite phrase to use here. Why don't we have 4 day weeks at school in the US? It's really just a better plan for everyone. Yesterday we finished up the first full week of classes. We went to dinner at a place called Il Falchetto which is right next to our school and not even a 2 minute walk from our apartment. We went with 2 other friends, all ordered pasta and split a bottle of wine. I got spinach and ricotta gnocchi but they sound better than they actually were. I got tiramisu for dessert because I just couldn't pass it up! After, around 11pm, we met up with more friends at a bar called Dempsey's, right in the main square. A pretty ... read more

Today started off pretty slow. I only had Italian from 10-10:50, napped and made literally a pound of pasta for my roomates (we couldn't finish it). Around 4 I was getting pretty antsy to go do something. I figured it would be a good time to go shopping since all the sales around here are supposed to end this week, or so I heard. So off I went! Two stores and 3 outfits later, I was kind of getting frustrated. Were all the medium and large sizes gone or does everyone here really just wear a small? The one dress I've been eyeing in a window for about 2 days was too small when I tried it on :(. On my way walking back home I went into one more store, tried on a few things, ... read more

Ok starting now I'm trying to actually keep up to date with my posts. I've been here in Perugia from 2 weeks now and I'm pretty much all settled in. The city is so awesome; it's pretty small, but so beautiful. I have an amazing view from my window, which makes up for the less than breath-taking apartment I live in with my two roommates, Abby and Claire (both also from Bonas). The biggest change is that by law we're only allowed to have the heat on for 7 hours a day, so we've be learning to use it sparingly. These old stone buildings can get pretty cold. I started classes this week and so far, so good. The only down side is that everyday I have a class from 5:15-6:45 pm, but at least it's ... read more

Today was the first day of classes. After changing my schedule 2 times today, it's finally figured out. Another successful thing about today was that I learned how to order a big cappuccino! "Cappuccino maxi" it's called. It's served in an actual mug as opposed to a tiny teacup. Tonight for dinner we went out for pizza to celebrate our friend Marie's 21 birthday. I got a calzone with 4 cheeses, but had to be annoying and actually ask for 3 cheeses instead becuase Im not a fan of gorgonzola. After we went to 2 bars and wore those party hats that 2 year olds wear and sang kareoke! It was pretty funny. Other than that, today was just figuring out classes, sitting in classes, a meeting and a nap. But still a good day :) ... read more

Today was the best day I've had since being here I think. It totally made up for the disappointment and horrible-ness of yesterday. I was/am so happy. Like I previously said in my earlier blog, today we went to Assisi with our professor and his wife, the student crew of 6 from St. Bonaventure, and I think 7 random other students who wanted to join our posse. We started the day by meeting at 9AM at the MiniMetro station, took that to the train station, then took the train to the bus station in Porta Nova. That took about 2ish hours. The views from the bus ride going up never ending hills made me know that this trip was going to be so worth it. Next we walked to San Diamo which was about a mile ... read more

Today was prettttyyyy boring. We slept til 2pm because me and Carrie were out til after 4 at an "all night dance party" we were brought to by a friend who has been studying abroad here since last semester. It was literally the craziest thing I have expereinced yet while being here. Talk about strobe lights, extremely loud and intense Italian music. My ears are still ringing. Before going to that club we walked around to different bars and saw some fellow Umbra students. Wins the award for must fun night out here so far. Today nothing seemed to be working for us in general. My cell phone I got for this trip charged over night and now simply just won't turn on at all. While trying to charge my computer, I noticed my converter/adapter would ... read more

We started off the day with sleeping in, which felt amazing. I haven’t been sleeping well, so it was nice to lay in bed a bit later than usual. Then, because we did not travel here through Arcadia (a study abroad company), our school hosted a big lunch for us to get to know each other while the Arcadia students were on their trip to Tuscany. The food was so good, I’ll definitely be going back at some point. Maybe I’ll bring my parents if they are able to visit. It’s been a very easy day. I’m probably going to go to sleep early tonight in order to be all rested up for our trip to Assisi tomorrow! I can’t wait to take pictures, since I still haven’t taken any. As for now, time to go ... read more

The way my school works is that we have classes 4 days a week, Monday – Thursday, in order to encourage travelling. This was the last day of Intensive Italian classes. Even though it was torture sitting in classes for that long, I learned so much. I don’t have the best Italian professor back home, so t’s nice having an Italian professor that teaches so well. We’re going to be getting so much homework with her though, but I’ll live. I can’t be in one of the classes that I wanted, so I’m currently rearranging my schedule. I think I have it all figured out. I just have to choose if I want an art course or an Italian history course, so it will be a hard decision. All of my roommates are going out tonight, ... read more
