Today was the best day I've had since being here I think. It totally made up for the disappointment and horrible-ness of yesterday. I was/am so happy. Like I previously said in my earlier blog, today we went to Assisi with our professor and his wife, the student crew of 6 from St. Bonaventure, and I think 7 random other students who wanted to join our posse. We started the day by meeting at 9AM at the MiniMetro station, took that to the train station, then took the train to the bus station in Porta Nova. That took about 2ish hours. The views from the bus ride going up never ending hills made me know that this trip was going to be so worth it. Next we walked to San Diamo which was about a mile ... read more

Today was prettttyyyy boring. We slept til 2pm because me and Carrie were out til after 4 at an "all night dance party" we were brought to by a friend who has been studying abroad here since last semester. It was literally the craziest thing I have expereinced yet while being here. Talk about strobe lights, extremely loud and intense Italian music. My ears are still ringing. Before going to that club we walked around to different bars and saw some fellow Umbra students. Wins the award for must fun night out here so far. Today nothing seemed to be working for us in general. My cell phone I got for this trip charged over night and now simply just won't turn on at all. While trying to charge my computer, I noticed my converter/adapter would ... read more

We started off the day with sleeping in, which felt amazing. I haven’t been sleeping well, so it was nice to lay in bed a bit later than usual. Then, because we did not travel here through Arcadia (a study abroad company), our school hosted a big lunch for us to get to know each other while the Arcadia students were on their trip to Tuscany. The food was so good, I’ll definitely be going back at some point. Maybe I’ll bring my parents if they are able to visit. It’s been a very easy day. I’m probably going to go to sleep early tonight in order to be all rested up for our trip to Assisi tomorrow! I can’t wait to take pictures, since I still haven’t taken any. As for now, time to go ... read more

This first week is so boring to right about, but actually living here in Perugia is incredible. I was just going to combine the entries that I missed, but I’m listening to The Midnight Beast and am more motivated now. All I did in Italian was review verb tenses and conjugations, and then went on a walk through Perugia. We asked questions about different types of espresso in the bars and my professor told us about a lot of good places in the city that we should visit.... read more

The way my school works is that we have classes 4 days a week, Monday – Thursday, in order to encourage travelling. This was the last day of Intensive Italian classes. Even though it was torture sitting in classes for that long, I learned so much. I don’t have the best Italian professor back home, so t’s nice having an Italian professor that teaches so well. We’re going to be getting so much homework with her though, but I’ll live. I can’t be in one of the classes that I wanted, so I’m currently rearranging my schedule. I think I have it all figured out. I just have to choose if I want an art course or an Italian history course, so it will be a hard decision. All of my roommates are going out tonight, ... read more

Today has been a very easy day. I had a meeting this morning to discuss possible courses with my study abroad advisor, and he informed us of all the sites to see in Assisi. Then I bought my last Italian textbook, a panino, and came back to the school to use their free wifi. I’ll probably go back home once I’m done with this post. Tomorrow all I have planned is a free lunch that the school is offering, which is supposed to be delicious. After that, I will probably walk around Perugia and take a million pictures, because I haven’t taken any yet. Then on Sunday I’ll be spending the day in Assisi, which will be wonderful. I have to remember to upload all of the pictures I will be taking. I can’t wait to ... read more

Second post! This is a pretty good way to pass the time when you don't want to think about when we're going out to dinner. Italians don't eat dinner until after 8. My roomates and I are constant snackers between meals. It's hard to wait so long in between! We had lunch at 12:30 today, which were delicious personal pizzas, that I really want to estimate were a foot wide! This morning we had a meeting at 11am for the trip to Asissi that the group from our university is taking on Sunday. Our plan was to wake up at 10:30, but that went down the tubes realllll fast when we woke up to our door bell buzzing at 8:50am! My roommate Abby asked if I heard it, and we convinced ourselves it wasn't anything important ... read more

This is my first post on my first ever blog. I don't know if anyone will read this, or if it will never be seen. I would appreciate comments just to know someone is seeing this! I am a Jounalism/Mass Communication major and have always been into writing. I tend to ramble alot and I promise I can't promise to avoid doing it in this blog :) So, how did I end up here in Perugia, Italy? I wish the story had more substance than it actually does. Instead, it was more suggested to me by my dad. It started as a "Claire, I saw that there is a meeting about studying abroad in Perugia for Spring 2012..it's at this room at this time. And you really, really should go." I didn't say no. I had ... read more

January 10th 2012

This is a day late, so I’ll just post twice today. Our Italian classes began today. This week is only Italian, in order to teach us the basics on how to get by in Italy. We have three 1.5 hour classes every day. Super intense, but I’m going to learn so much. Then I went out to eat at my advisor’s house. We had so much pizza. We discussed all of the technical stuff, such as classes and how our apartments are. After dinner, when we were walking home, I asked one of my advisors to show us where Amanda Knox’s house is, so we took the short walk over. The house is so creepy, especially because we went at night. I’m going to go back to take pictures, but only during the day. It’s too ... read more
