Day 0 - Poconos to Frankfurt This is a blog about motorcycling in Eastern Europe (not sure whether you would include Turkey) so throw in plus Western Turkey. It starts in the Poconos in Pennsylvania, USA. Immediately this tells you something about the blog, and more to the point, the blogger. The point being it does not matter how much you travel there is always a sense of awe when one evening you are in the Treetop Lodge, in (sort of) new England, America and the next in Linz, Austria. Of course this is stretching it given time differences, treating plane travel time as warp speed and other omissions, but you get the point. Even the most jaded traveler cannot but be impressed by the contrast. One moment you are in a scene where the Great ... read more

The three of us were only in Frankfurt for a couple of nights and it is plenty enough of time to have a good look around the city. Egle, a good friend of ours is travelling with us for a trip over the Easter period and great to have her along with us. Frankfurt is realy just a financial city with not much to see as in the the old town and other things. We were very lucky though to have great host for us during our two nights and also got to visit a friend from Germany that I had meet in Adelaide a couple of years ago so it was good to see Carolin again. She is heading back to Australia hopefully next January and if any knows how to get a second working ... read more

Christiane and I are flying to the States for 2 weeks in the sun and surf: Phoenix, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, San Diego, and the booming metropolis (hahahaha) of Sierra Vista, AZ. Our flight begins on the 11th of March 2010 at the Frankfurt International Airport (duh, in Frankfurt). We are flying US Airways because, well lets just say I got a good price, but also the connections were good too. The first leg of the flight is to Charlotte North Carolina with a 2-hour layover before our continuing flight to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. I made sure we didn't have to leave to early in the morning but also not too late, so I booked us leaving at 11:40 to arrive in CHA at 15:40 local time (Yes, I will use the 24-hour clock. Since ... read more

Frankfurt is exactly what I like in my travels: a cool places with great people. After Berlin, Frankfurt and it's (-2) to 2 was nice, warm and welcoming. I could wander around the streets!! and I did, enjoying the churches and renovated buildings without the need to worry where is the next warm place I could protect myself... I even went to the Museum to watch Botticelli's art exhibition and could line up (with dozens of others) for 30 minutes in the open air and enjoy it!! oh, BTW, in Berlin I've visited “the Picasso story” (can't get the website working, google it..) and it was great, most recommended and it's great for kids too... enough with the culture thing, people might get the wrong impression of me! I met some great people in Frankfurt. Alexander, ... read more

Well here it is! The day everyone loves or dreads - the day before the you go! Like Christmas Eve, it is always the longest day ever! Full of worry about what you have forgotten. I have already managed to forget my bra that you can change the strapes on to make them see though or halter. It may not seem a big thing but it is to me. Half my tops and dresses require me to wear that bra. Ugh. I swear I packed it. Stupid thing. So my packing is done - except my last few bits and bobs that I need tomorrow morning. Woo hoo, and it only took 7 days to do! Oh the pfaff (Owain you would be soooooo proud of me). I was given a stack of paper the other ... read more

Well today we were meant to start our travels, but the depature date had been moved until Monday. It had been changed before I arrived. So only 3 more sleeps! Oooooo Im so excited . Today was a rather fun day, HB and I went into the very pretty village of Königstein. It was the German equivalent of the English chocolate box villages. It was so pretty, with very traditional buildings, narrow cobbled roads and lots of snow. I tell you - I am totally over the snow part! Bring on the next 6 months of Summer! Anyway we were had gone into the village to get her her own travel dairy. We looked at quite a few but, in the end, said her heart wanted the pink one. Well there is a surprise! One snowy Wednesday, Huggie Bug and Anita were sitting in a doctor’s room. WHEN, all of a sudden Huggie Bug’s shoe zip and Anita’s shoelace ran away! Oh dear! ‘How will we be able to take off our shoes!’ How will we get them back?’ They cried. They saw their zip and shoelace run out of the building and down someone’s chimney. Huggie Bug and Anita decided to run after them. Huggie Bug and Anita chased the zip and the shoelace to the house and knocked on the door. ‘Hello?’ The lady said, ‘can I help you?’ ‘Yes,’ said Anita ‘has a zip and a shoelace come down your chimney?’ ‘Oh yes. Would you like to get them?’ ‘Yes please, thank you.’ Huggie Bug and Anita ran inside and started to climb up the chimney. There ... read more
