Mid Atlantic. Not sleeping very well even with two seats, but at least we have plenty of room this time. Breakfast not a moment too early, but again Kate's lactose free meal is better... I think I've got to come up with a better dietary requirement. Low carb just isn't getting me anywhere. ~ an hour to land there is no avoiding it, I'm going to have to do battle with my mortal enemy - the aircraft toilet. Yet again the toilet wins 8-( Arr. Frankfurt Main. Landed in short order, through customs in minutes and then to collect our bags. A short wait (OK a long one) then into the main terminal. Now what? Umm straight to Munich or stay in Frankfurt tonight? We take a vote on it and both decide that exhaustion is ... read more

Well this wasnt supposed to happen. We were trying to get to the US on the day before my dad was finally out of the Air Force, and it did not go smoothly. We did not make our connection and ended staying in Frankfurt one night. Does this count as a country that I have been to? I didnt see much of anything but a hotel.... read more

how do i find myself in all sorts of situations....well you´ve experienced part of the way our lives (me & dave) take shape... the frisbees, well some of you know ´day bats´ and ´night bats´.....those (hopefully imaginary) dark shapes you see in the corner of your eye when exhausted or make you jump out of a doze like an idiot, arm or leg shooting up...well because my flight went santiago to frankfurt...outside it went quickly from night, to morning, to night, to morning, so i discovered frisbees! I was jumping outa my seat scaring the shite out of the dour german beside me thew whole way! been travelling nearly 3 days....zzzzzzzzz! needless to say, i´m a stinkin, tired lad on full reserve energy auto pilot! so was in the waiting lounge of frankfurt airport, hours to ... read more

All day speed reading And a wander about town Did some laundry too. It was another work day for Reimar and Conny. I had my work cut out for me too. On my to-do list…laundry and reading! Bit of a kink in the plan since the laundry room was being used by the staff and wouldn’t be free until about 5PM. No worries. That’ll be enough time for me to wash and dry my clothes before Reimar and Conny get home from work around 7PM. Geesh, these guys work late! Conny tells me that Reimar sometimes works ‘til 9 or 10…but since I’m in town he’s been leaving earlier than normal…still longer than your average 8 hour work day. I went out in the afternoon to take advantage of the sun shining. I didn’t walk anywhere ... read more

A day to myself Reading, shopping and watching Great day in the sun. Today is my first full day in Frankfurt. Reimar and Conny had to go to work today so I was left to my own devices. I wanted to get up and at least have breakfast with them but I slept like a log and didn’t even hear them! I eventually got up and started to read “when the War was Over - Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge Revolution.” By Elizabeth Becker. A really well written book…only problem, there are 500+ pagers to slog through by Tuesday morning! I was showered up just before the cleaners came by. Perfect timing! Reimar and Conny have been living in temporary accommodations since coming back from their big RTW trip in March/April. It is covered by Conny’s ... read more

German limited Thank gawd charades not needed Sprechen sie Englisch? Another uneventful train ride. There’s only about an hour before getting to Frankfurt. Apparently an announcement just came on telling us the train is 15 minutes late…didn’t notice. No I didn’t translate that from German. They actually made an announcement in English as well. Lol I’ll lock my stuff up for a few hours at the train station since Reimar is working ‘til 6:30 so I’ll explore for a bit. I just realized it has been about 5 years since we saw each other back in New York City. Time sure does fly! I can’t remember the exact year but I think it was 1988 that we’ve known one another…wow..17 years! It’ll be a nice reunion and it will definitely be nice to finally meet his ... read more

Yayyyyyyy i can almost count the hours already... Over the past days it felt like my whole trip was falling apart.. plans didnt end up working out, some people I was going to meet will not be there anymore. I felt like cancelling it all and but thanks to my great friend my enthusiasm about the trip returned back. We had a looong chat on the phone and after that the world was sunny again :o) Tomorrow one of my friends is going to pick up my computer so when I return from my trip win98 will finally belong to the stone age and my computer will be all new and modern with windows XP!!! Things are now all packed, did the final big clean up at my place, my backpack ended up being absolutely crammed ... read more

Today the "wanderlust" hit me with its full intensity... It started when i got ready this morning and so I've been enthusiastically preparing a few more things today I had to do before my departure. I just returned from having lunch in town and on my way all the excitement changed into a mixed feeling. I have to admit I'm feeling quite anxious at the time, but the more i analyze this feeling the more I see that there aren't founded reasons to feel like that. It's kind of the feeling when your in a rollercoaster and its going slowly to the peak before it speeds down. So I hope time will pass quickly "till my rollercoaster speeds down", i.e. when I'm finally on the airplane or even better when I'm finally there. Another thing that ... read more

In only 7 more days at exactly this time I'll arrive in Sharm el Sheikh. The excitement grows with every day and I kinda go through ups and downs. One day I feel so happy and excited.. the next day I even feel a bit anxious. But I guess this is a normal feeling when youre travelling into the unknown... There are still so many things I have to do before my departure. At least I've got my ticket and new passport now. Today I will pay some bills and will scan my tickets/Passport etc. Hopefully I dont forget anything...... read more
