so we made it through austria. austria, for starters, has great sausage. the kasekrainer is amazing. like a footlong brat with mozzarella all in the middle. i ate many. we landed in salzburg, home of "the sound of music", and it was easy to see flying into the smallish town that the area was beautiful. it sits just north of the alps, and it was a beautiful city with great countryside feeling all around it. there is an imposing castle on top of a hill on the edge of the city and a nice old town. we found a hotel and since julie was meeting us in an hour or two after that, we decided to let mom rest (me too) and then just start seeing the city after she got there. she did, on a ... read more

Frankfurt quick log. After a very long day at Dubai made it in to Frankfurt. Actually turned out to be really COOL! The guy sitting next to me was really nice, we started chatting turns out...he's a U2 pilot (a U2 PILOT!) for the US Air Force. WOW! You know how I'd feel about that!!! I know he was telling the truth because as we were 'deplaning' Gary Sinise and his brother said hi...they had met a couple of days earlier at a USO thingy. WOW! On a less interesting note (still WOW hey!) lounge had lots of great big windows with great plane spotting possibilities, snacks not so good (gummy bears?) and lounge was very busy. 7/10 Next stop...Cairo. I found this free Internet station at the Samsung stand in the airport, so I'm typing a quick one to say I made it. Also, beware that German keyboards have the y and the z swapped, so if I randomly mix them, this is whz.... har har. I've fiested on large ammounts of rye bread, awesome cheese and panini's already; pretty much exactly what I missed about Europe ;-) On the way to the market, I had to pass this sushi place... tamago is 1.4 euro each and nagiri tuna is 2.4 euro! By Vancouver standards, this means that all you can eat is 3 or 4 pieces (it's 12 CAD, fyi). Anyway, people are lining up to use this free Internet. I'm going to go explore the Frankfurt airport. I am sitting in the Frankfurt airport waiting for my flight to San Francisco and thought I would post a final blog before returning home. Well my final day in Bangalore has come and gone and I spent it much like I spent most of my days here, hanging out with friends. My day started off early as some co-workers were coming by to drop off a thank you gift. The staff here was super nice and sent me off with a number of gifts and numerous well-wishes last evening. It was very hard to say good bye as all of the folks in the office were great to me and I feel like they have been working with me forever. Hallo! We're back in Pfungstadt now. Today we were decorating the tree and getting ready for the xmas celebration tonight. we will have dinner shortly and open our presents a few hours before the rest of you (though ours will be at night and yours will be the morning of the 25th...as it should be!).
