Hello. Yes, I'm still alive. This will be the end of this edition of the travelblog. As it turns out, my pictures from my first few days on the Croatia coast cannot be salvaged so this is officially the last time I will be updating both the writing and the pics. Don't cry. Travel update It's been a wild ride, that's for damn sure. After returning to Vancouver, I got a chance to briefly catch up there for 8 days, with both friends and work. I remembered instantly why I want to stay there forever. But after those brief 8 days, I moved to Chicago a week ago. After a week of work, the weekend has arrived so I've finally dumped my final pics before I mail the camera back to my friend in Montreal. I'll ... read more
Hallo. This will be the last entry written from this side of the pond, as I travel tomorrow. I'll probably write another after I get back to Van, so after that I'll try to get the pictures up for this entry and that final "I'm back" one (probably after the Cambie outing at 9pm on the 17th, if anyone cares to join!). Travel update From Denmark, I made it to Berlin traveling on a train that itself boarded a ferry. I stayed at Dr.NoJoke's once again and had a truly unique time for the third place match as well as the final (see below). Monday I traveled to meet Ute in Minden which is where I type now. After a lovely several days here, I'm on my last one until I fly; tomorrow I take a ... read more
Hej med dig. Hvordan går det? Pictures included here and for all entries backwards to mid-May (where I still haven't gotten those from my dead camera). Travel update: I've been in and around the Copenhagen area (staying in Nivå) and will leave on the train tomorrow (June 8th) to Berlin (the train itself boards a ferry!). In Berlin, I'll meet Dr. NoJoke and perhaps a German friend from UBC named Frank who will also be in town. I'll be there to watch Germany for the 3rd place game and then will be at the Fan Fest in Berlin for the final on the 9th. On the 10th, I'll travel to meet Ute in Minden and it appears as if I'll be staying there until I fly to Vancouver at noon from Frankfurt on the 13th. I'll ... read more
Hej. No pics now but soon as I have some cool ones from Croatia (did I mention I love Croatia?) I'll be able to put up on Monday or Tuesday, after going to Roskilde Festival on Sunday to see my friend Thor and also The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand. After several years, I've made it back in Denmark meeting my host family and Birgitte. So far it's just been all about catching up and watching the quarterfinals inbetween. It is nice being in the only place in the world where I can practice my (poor) Danish. Travel update: Last I wrote I had just arrived to Zagreb. Since, I spent a handful of days in Krezevci, Zvonimir's hometown NE of Zagreb an hour where I met the infamous 50+ parrot collection of his father. From there ... read more
Bok. The previous pages have pictures now!! Travel update: So I flew from Hamburg and have found myself once again in Zagreb. I have been hanging out here and also, of course, watching soccer. Today we will go to Zvon's hometown of Krizevci for a BBQ with some friends, to watch the Round of 16, and to feed the parrots. A few stories: Last I wrote it was in Hamburg just before heading off to the Fan Fest for the much anticipated Argentina Holland match together with the posse. After purchasing an official World Cup pillow, we made it to the Fan Fest just before the match. I have been to Fan Fest's in 6 cities now but this one was unique in that their food stalls were organized by country. For each country within the ... read more
Hi. Lots of running around, lots of soccer and finally some time to breath! I haven't written since Prague because I've been in intense soccer travel mode! I went Prague - Nuremburg - Kaiserslautern - Frankfurt - Munich - Rostock - Lubeck - Hamburg since! And each in one and two day increments, so it's been INTENSE! Tomorrow things will start to be a little bit more chilled out. I fly back to Zagreb to see Zvon and have 8 days undefined there where I intend on resting and perhaps making way to the coast for a handful of days before going to Denmark in July and back to Berlin for the final. Summarizing a week of my life: Last I wrote was halftime of the England game while we watched from the square in Prague. ... read more
Hello. This is officially the most rushed entry ever! Rough travel update: So now we (Cory, Jeff, and my brother) are in Prague after having arrived here this morning in our now infamous manvan. After Gelsenkirchen we made it to Berlin, staying one night at drnojoke.de 's (a guy I met in Turkey) and one in the van, graciously dubbed the manvan. After much congestion, we made it to Prague in the early afternoon. We had a few quick drinks with my Veronika here (a native of the region who is a friend of a friend) and are at the moment watching the England game on a huge TV setup in the old town square. Some quick stories before the second half starts!: After Gelsenkirchen we progressed towards Berlin and slept in the van. We made ... read more
Hi. Pics later, and videos. I am trying to drink away my sorrows in Gelsenkirchen after my team decided to not play today and pretend like they are the fucking worst team in the World Cup. So I write you semi-drunk from Gelsenkirchen central square.... Fuck. I had so much hidden confidence for my nation's team and really looked forward to the match. We lost 3 to fuckin 0, and the goals came at the worst time. Minute 4, then right before halftime then after we hit the post and midway through the second half. Fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one wanted to play. No one saw it as if this was the world cup except a player here and there. Thankfully the times since have been really fun. I love the Czech fans. They are so fun and ... read more
Guten tag. I am here! The games start in less than 12 hours! I am a very overpriced hostel and about to go to the airport to collect my brother and friends Jeff and Cory. As a result, this entry is going to be quite short, and I just know I'm going to forget something. Still, you'll get the picture. Travel update: The past days I've been in Bologna, Italy except yesterday I trained to Venice then bussed to the airport then flew to near Frankfurt then bussed to Frankfurt proper. I will be running around with my brother and friends in a matter of hours! Tales: After Venice, I to a train with Laura to Bologna. The town houses the oldest university in Europe dating back to the 11th century. It is well known for ... read more
Buongiorno. A HUGE part of my time in Italy has been the ENDLESS kindness demonstrated by my two hosts. I will try to give this kindness justice and explain what's been going on in this area. No pictures this time but eventually they will be AWESOME. Quick travel update: I'm sitting in my friend Laura's family house in Trevignano, Italy which is a short distance from Venice. The days prior, I was with Massimo in Trieste and various parts of the area, including Slovenia. Today, I was in Venice proper and tomorrow I'm heading with Laura to Bologna for a handful of days. I'll return to Venice the morning of the 8th and fly out that evening to Frankfurt. The World Cup starts the 9th. Control yourself.
