It really was so very nice of him (to remain nameless) to accompany us and "help" us with Heidelberg today, it was and I'm grateful for it and I have to keep reminding myself that a slightly let-down of a day in Heidelberg Germany is better than any day at the USPS. For various reasons i don't want to get specific about (because it's not nice, at all, to be mean to people for things they can't help) it was a tough day with our companion....I'm trying to stop banging my head against the wall but I simply cannot. We visited the castle in H, awesome structure and surely there's a great story and history behind it... but to me going to such a location without doing the audio tour or a guided tour is 98% ... read more

Heidelberge is a relatively small town that hosts a castle, a zoo and europes oldest university from like 1350 or so. We did even less here than in Frieburg but, choosing to have a few days off to chill out after that last week of hecktivity. Waking from near sleep and thinking we were at our train stop (Heidelberge Hauptbhanof - Main Station) we jumped off the train in a rush to realize we were not at our train station. Not to worry, following on from the fitness thing we decided to walk to our hostel. So deducing a direction to plod in we set off until we found some free wireless to /iPhone to the rescue and found our hostel. This was rather difficult due to poor hostel signage, but find it we did! It ... read more

I'm late....I'm late....for a very important date....no time to say hello....goodbye...I'm late! I'm late I'm late! It has been a while since my last Blog and a lot has happened between now and then. I will begin with Mainz and Heidelberg. Mainz: (see video as well) When I went there they were celebrating Karnival BIG TIME! I loved it. I got to hear tons of marching bands and see tons of costumes! Including a tiger. (; I loved our tour guide. He is an older gentlemen and very sincere. He almost cried when talking about a church with a Jewish history. He reminds me of my Grandpa, whom I love so dearly!!! One of my favorite aspects of Karnival is the affect it has on people. Everyone, including the adults, dress up. The whole town pretty ... read more

The next few entries will cover our 4 day weekend. We had so many diffderent things planned and made a few changes once we found there were tickets available for the annual Heidelberg Vampire Ball. It's always held during the week of Fasching. First things on the list was to figure out what to wear. Not too difficult but as much as we would have like to have gone all out with fancy ball costumes we didn't want to empty our wallets to do so. Nick got a really nice red dress shirt at C&A and I found a fancy black hat with feathers (they have such inexpensive nice clothes..reminds me of a Kohls and Old Navy) and I bought a cute black dress at the BX. Then after researching as best I could, I found ... read more

Next stop is in the Rhine Valley and the small town of Heidelberg. Heidelberg is a city in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The Rhein-Neckar-Kreis rural district surrounds the city. Heidelberg lies on the river Neckar at the point where it leaves its narrow, steep valley in the Odenwald to flow into the Rhine valley where it joins the river Rhine at Mannheim. Heidelberg is part of a densely populated region known as the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region. It also has a Thorntons Chocolate style shop but for gummie bears!!! Yum….I like gunnie bears. There is also a monkey at the front of the bridge into the town. There ya go…a couple of random facts for you. Anyways, we stay at the Sudpfanne hostel which is nice and comfortable in a big old house, take lunch in a neaby barwhere ... read more

Kee writing again today Hey guys. Hope you are all well and enjoying our adventures. Tonight after dinner Kris and I went upstairs to the entertainment area at the frat house and we listened to music till very late while mom and Lars sat downstairs chatting and drinking wine. Tomorrow morning we leave for Berlin where we will be welcoming the New Year. For the first time since we in Europe, we will be taking the slow train as these tickets were very cheap. We had a qucik breakfast with Lars, before he dropped us off at the train station. It was a long trip to Berlin and we had to change trains a few times. Although our first train was full, we still had seats and it was comfy - but wait till you hear ... read more

We were going to spend one more day in Stuttgart according to our itinerary, but last night I was chatting to Lars, a German CSer who had spent last christmas in SA with us and he insisted that we come to Heidelberg, even if just for one day. He was now back in Germany, studying in Heidelberg where he was living in a fraternity house. He said that there was just no way we were coming all the way to Germany without visiting him so I guess we have to leave Stuttgart a day earlier than planned. I liked Stuttgart so much, and I really wanted to take the girls to Ludwigsburg, that I was feeling a bit sceptical about going to Heidelberg, but Lars was adamant that we visit him so that's settled! I just weighed my baggage and I am pretty surprised. Currently it is only 19,9kg for my diving baggage, so I can load additional 10kg of cloth. Only the weight of my hand baggage is as already expected double of the weight allowed :-)... read more

There is only one week left and I am starting to get flustered. Last weekend I took the first time my diving luggage and tried to pack it. With all my clothes it seems to get really packed. I also started to panic because could not find the flat port for my unterwater camera equipment. Suddenly I found it in the luggage from my last vacation last year :-) Okay, this week I ll have to do some washing and finish my packing. I also need to check the weight of my luggage :-) Philippines - I am already on my way :-)... read more
