After leaving Trebenice we were both on a high that can only really be found in a person who has experienced being stranded in a random little town in a country that doesn't speak your language, but still manages to get back on the road... i.e. Della and me. We decided that we really should at least try to see some of Germany on our way home as we drove through both the northern part and the southern part, so we decided to stop in Frankfurt A.M. for the night and see a little of it the following morning before driving to Heidelberg to go to a museum Della had studied in school containing a very important piece of history. Ahhhh!! I forgot to mention the SatNav finally worked again so all really was beautiful!! Just ... read more

Yesterday we got up, had some breakfast and hit the road. We decided to take the long way through the black forest. We drove for a few hours and stopped off at a small restaurant for lunch. It was right at the start of the Black Forest Highway. It was really crowded, and really really slow. I think only 2 or 3 people worked there. Our lunch was very tasty though, so it was worth the wait. The Highway was really nice, but we passed a lot of trees that were either dead or had been burned or something. Big sections of forest were gone. We pulled off to go on one trail, but it was really cold out and the path didn't look that interesting. Later we pulled off at another place and thought we ... read more

First Blog Entry with Current Stats First of all I would like to welcome you to my travel blog of my diving trip to the Philippines. As I am almost 3 weeks at the Philippines and travelling around a little I would like to offer my blog here. The idea to travel to the Philippines came up around a month ago. I was already planning to do a diving vacation but was not clear about the destination. As I ve already been to Egypt - Dahab last year I planed to do a trip somewhere else. For this reason I was thinking about to travel to Thailand, Indonesia or the Philippines. I found a nice Hotel on Bali (Indonesia). The reason why I did not choose Bali was, the travel agency rejected my request two times ... read more

On our way to Portland from India this summer we took a break in Europe. We first went to Germany for a quick break before heading to Greece. In Germany, we had a chance to spend some time with my colleague and good friend Jason and his family before they packed up and went back to Palo Alto after a two year assignment with SAP in Germany. They lived in Heidelberg so we decided to stop there. Bindu and Maya were also curious to see Heidelberg since I travel there on work frequently. As you can see from our pictures, Heidelberg is a beautiful city. It has been an important center of education in Germany for many centuries. They have a wonderful Haupestrasse and great old churches including some excellent Catholic ones. The city is dominated ... read more

Heidelberg Just before I left we spent a day in a city called Heidelberg, which I particularly enjoyed. The city lies along the Neckar River, and has a castle that sits on a hill just near the inner city. There is a bridge that runs over the river that I got a few good pictures of, and a university right in the city. We walked through the campus for a sedong to check it out. This university could potentially be school that I could attend on a study abroad program in a couple years. Sandra sometimes works in a shoe store that is in the heart of the city, so we went to the store so she could take a minute to do some business. Afterward we spent some time walking around the city, checking out ... read more

I woke up early, logged on and checked the seat counts; so far, things are looking pretty good. I cleaned up and headed down stairs, then checked my e-mail. Of all the messages I received, I enjoyed hearing from Kirsten the most. She and everyone were winding down their trip at the beach house at Anna Maria Island and were ready for me to come home. I think she’s missing me. I’m definitely missing her. Lori came down and said, “Hey pops, let me buy you breakfast.” That’s a tough offer to refuse; moments later, we’re sitting inside the McDonald’s next door, enjoying our Egg McMuffins. They tasted great, just like the ones I shared with momma in Radcliff. After breakfast, we walked over to the Bahnhof and found the information office, where we asked the ... read more

But oh, was it sssooo good! Drizzled with honey and a scope of vanilla ice cream, I sat there at the Thai restaurant, eating this dessert that was like an aphrodisiac. And I mean that literally. My husband and I went touring around the city of Heidelberg, near the Universtät and the infamous Heidelberg castle, and found a Thai restaurant surrounded by other eateries from different countries. We decided to eat outside and enjoy the European lifestyle of relaxation. No rush, even after you pay for your meal. I had Moo Nam Tok - cold beef salad - and my husband had Green Curried Beef. Everything from that to the wanton soup was well seasoned and delectable. We had fun venturing out on our own. I met my husband after work, by taking the shuttle ... read more

Yesterday, after a few disastrous visa-attempts (Brittany has been trying to get her work visa for the past week but has encountered many roadblocks), Brittany and I decided it would be a good idea to get out of Karlsruhe for the day and spend some time in Heidelberg (about 45 minutes away by train). It was time to put the thoughts aside about logistics and go have fun and be carefree in another town. We arrived by train and were greeted by the sights of a big city with a small-town feel to it. Overlooking Heidelberg is a castle that had been around since the 1300's. We decided to go explore the castle grounds and took a tram up to the castle. We first went into the castle courtyard, and out on to an overlook where ... read more
