HI everyone! I just got home from Skagen with my host family! It was so beautiful and one of the most beautiful places i have ever seen! It took about three hours to drive there, but it was completely worth it. By the way, Skagen is a town located on the most northern point of Denmark. Its a place where you can see the East and Noth sea collide together. We left friday after school and arrived later in that afternoon. All of the houses are yellow, with white trimming, and white fences. It was kind of scary because every house and shop looked the same as the other, but it was still pretty cool. We stayed in a light house located right on the beach and it was the coolest place i have ever spent ... read more

Geo: 55.6763, 12.5681This morning we checked out and walked towards the nearby canal and over the bridge to Christiansborg Palace. It was a very boring looking palace. We walked through and headed towards the Marble Church, once again passing Newhaven. It looked really different today compared to yesterday. Today's sunshine was a big improvement. Marble Church seemed quite small inside and quite grey. We noticed a sign that said we could climb up the dome for a small amount. It was decided that we should go up, we were here as tourists and that is what tourists do. We went up a few staircases and came to the base of the dome. We walked along the curved walkway to the other side of the dome. From up here it was a great view of the church ... read more

Geo: 55.6763, 12.5681Early this morning Jess, AJ, Charne, Dee and I caught a taxi to Stansted Airport and got on the plane for Copenhagen. A few months ago Dee and I were looking for cheap flights for weekends away- this trip was one of them. We all slept on the plane. Once we arrived we caught the train into the centre of town and went in search of our hostel. It was easy to find once we correctly read the map. This place was in a great location, clean and easy to find. We dumped our backpacks and wandered around the city. I had been here before so I had a good idea of where I wanted to go again and the girls weren't happy to go along with my suggestions. We walked along the canal ... read more

Friends and Family, I arrived in Copenhagen on Tuesday and have been all around the Zealand Area and even into Sweden. I met up with a couple people and travelled around Copenhagen city seeing lots of Palaces, a Fortress, Museums and even a Little Mermaid Statue (very famous due to the Hans Christian Anderson story). I caught a train up to see Fredriksborg Slot (castle), Kronborg Slot (also known as Shakespeare's Hamlet's castle), then the Karnan Tower and the Malmohus castle in Sweden. I didn't make it back over the 7.8 km Oresund bridge joining Sweden and Denmark until late in the day. Today I caught a train to Rosklide and Lejre and visited an archeolgical experimental centre, the famous Rosklide cathedral and the viking museum. The Rosklide cathedral contains the graves of all of the ... read more

In Copenhagen I didn't really get up to much at all, did tonnes of walking around the city and thats about it mostly. Just did all the touist things, museums, Princess Mary's Pallce (go Tasmanians), the old buildings and of course the Little Mermaid. Yes this is the place the little mermaid was invented and a nice walk out the city will take you to the jamed packed area with tourists (moetly Chinese) to see the statue. The most interesting Museum would have been the 'Resistance' Museum and how Denmark made there resistance durung the 2nd World War. Really we found out that all Denmarks reststance lasted two hours and the country was taken over by the Germans and during the war it was small groups just vandelising train rails, cars or factories. We had a ... read more

Its been a looong time since I updated this. The short version. Half Machine was getting ready for Roskilde festival, I finished school (with an A on the last project no less) and went to Canada for thre weeks. Visited family and friends, went to Vegas with my mom, won at the PENNY slots, haha, and had a great time in both Canada and Vegas. Came back home to Denmark, spent a day with my then-very-new boyriend, and had a job interviw the next day, (didn't work out, but proves that I should not work for evil empires) next up, Roskilde festival, a week of crazy explosions, insane crowds, cold showers, and multiple escapes to the boat, which was a five star hotel after Roskile. Roskilde ended and we came home to the barge, and got ... read more

Ladies and Gentlemen and other well wishers, we have arrived in the wonderful CPH. We had a smooth ride getting here with no hiccups. In fact, we actually got an extra bottle of wine free of charge on the plane. Yay! After about 15 hours en route, we arrived in Copenhagen airport, caught the train into the city with no problems, and managed to get to our hostel almost two hours before we had to be there. We were exhausted, but excited to see the city, so we headed out to the Stroget, a pedestrian street lined with shops and cafes that stretches from the train station out to the canal Nyhavn. After strolling the busy streets we settled on a boat cruise to view the sites from the water. For a couple of Lauriers we ... read more

I started my Europe trip by flying from Boston to London on Friday September 5th, so my trip started 5 days later than Kelly's. I flew all day and arrived in London at night which made jet lag much easier to handle. I met up with Kate Stangl and went to where she is staying for her semester abroad in South Kensington. The area is beautiful! There were 4 other Thayer Academy grads in London that weekend and it was nice to see familiar faces in a new country. Three friends from Vanderbilt are also living in London this semester for internships so I got to see London with them as well. The first night we went to what I think was considered an Irish Pub in Picadilly Sqaure. It was pretty crowded and touristy. The ... read more

Wednesday 10th November I am now coming to you from the scenic vista of a laundrette in Aalborg, Denmark and it is absolutely chucking it down outside. I abandoned typing the blog on the ship as it got too rough. So I am sat here dackless and sockless like some wannabe Levi 501 commercial, washing everything I have. And it is pathetic - barely fills a third of a drum, which is probably some clue as to the nasty habit of clothing reuse that has been a necessity this last few days. Motorways maybe boring but they are hard to fault as a means of A-B. Once off the ferry I just rolled the bike up to 85mph and sat there and Aalborg came up quickly. Also I could duck behind the screen - I just ... read more
