Things in Svanholm are still going great. New Years in Copenhagen was just insane! Everyone bought their own fireworks and we all headed out to a big house party in the middle of the city. At 11:00, everyone rushed out onto the street and started shooting them off in every direction. It felt a lot more like Baghdad than downtown Copenhagen. After the New Years, things have returned to normal. We continue to find little jobs here and there, working from 8 until 3 from Monday to Friday. Some of us at Svanholm have cleaned up the 'teenager room' aka Galaxon and we've set up a Wii inside with a TV and some couches. I've become really good friends with the guys who live in Svanholm and we're even tossing around the idea of renting an ... read more

Little behind on the BLOG, we know... but figured it would take this long for anyone actually trying to read every word of it. (Thanks again to those of you who do, and yes, we understand that a lot of you are handling this BLOG the same way we all got through grade-school... look at the pics, read the captions and make up your own story. We still appreciate your interest!) København, Denmark ...an exhaustingly exiting weekend of site-seeing and such. So, after a grueling bus/ferry combo through the night we kicked off our adventure on Saturday as we pulled into town around 5:00 in the morning; walking, napping, sailing, walking, drinking, listening, walking, riding, swinging, walking, eating our way through Copenhagen and sleeping (in shifts) on the bus-ride back, Sunday at midnight. Highlights: - 5:00AM ... read more

God Jul (Merry Christmas), I'm currently sitting at John and Ingrid's house and the Christmas festivities have all died down for the moment. I had originally planned to stay here for only a few short days before going back to Zealand but I have run into a bitter sweet predicament that I didn't quite plan for. The Immigration Service had sent John and Ingrid a letter on the 15th of December and - since the letter was in my name - John decided to wait until I arrived in Esbjerg on the 23rd to open it. I arrived in Esbjerg at around 7:00pm and opened the letter to find that the Immigration Service had accepted my application to stay in Denmark until December of 2009 (they said it would take 2 months, instead, it took 2 ... read more

Founded in the beginning of the 8th century, Ribe is the oldest existing town in Denmark. At that time the vikings used Ribe as a trading centre before leaving for "sea expeditions". The first Scandinavian church was built here around 860. The town continued to grow and became very important not just for Denmark but much of Scandinavia. Although there was a great fire in 1580, many of Ribe's original medieval houses are still standing. The great cathedral situated in the heart of Ribe can been seen from far away as the landscape surrounding Ribe is very flat, much of it marshland. The cathedral was built in the 13th century. Many famous people was born or lived in Ribe during the centuries. A few days before Christmas my brother Aage and our friends Charlotte and Henriette ... read more

So then........ tomorrow is my last day in Copenhagen.....it feels weird..... unsettling jabs of excitement twangs of fear drops of sadness gushes of memories you know....that kind of thing. I'm sat here, in an empty house. It's such an opposite to how it has been, sometimes like 4 or 5 people all crashing here in this 1 and a half room apartment! Proper doss house.....now its just me and a lap top ha ha. Ok, so this is just babble babble but yeah man! hmmm I have really liked living in Copenhagen. I met some beautiful inspiring people. And I feel i have grown so much as an individual. Its really a challenging rewarding experience moving to another country and settling down, getting to know so many people and places. :) I'll miss all my friends ... read more

I haven't written in the blog for the last few weeks but the reasoning for that is fairly simple...things haven't really changed all that much. Besides the Christmas festivites here at Svanholm (Christmas trees, small parties, a large Christmas festival - similar to the farmers market back home) things are still the same. I work from 8-3 and learn Danish and hang out here. Then to Copenhagen and Roskilde on the weekends. At the moment it isn't really a nice time to go touring around Europe so I'm having loads of fun just staying here and partying with the Svanholm gang. We spend our weekdays planning for the weekend and I practice my Danish little by little. My understanding of Danish is getting quite decent but speaking is still difficult. Writing Danish...forget it. Give me at ... read more

No exciting trips abroad this time, unless you count the daily cross country tour to get to work. The trains here have an interesting game they like to play with me, its called, go, go, stop. Canceled, delayed, move you confidently forward one stop, then canceled. Its all a head game and one has to outsmart them to survive. Find a job which is awesome, and doesn't mind when you come in and lets you work evenings when you need to, and weekends, or one that feeds you after you've spent two hours commuting, or one that regularly has great events for its employees. Well yes, I found that. And subsequently watched as it slipped through my fingers. Thank you global recession. Our company has done everything right, and yet here I am, unemployed. I do ... read more

Tout le monde, It's the start of my third week at Svanholm and fortunately for myself things are going just great! The work is comfortable, I have some great friends at the farm, and the chances of getting that tourist visa are looking better and better. My weekdays are fairly simple, I get up at 7:30, I start work at 8:00, I have lunch in the main kitchen (prepared for us by a small army of cooks) at 12:00 and am off by 3:00. After 3:00 I usually hang out with my friends at Svanholm and play video games or learn Danish. On the weekends we try to go to night clubs in Roskilde or Copenhagen (we went to Copenhagen this past weekend) and it's all worked out just great. I'll be heading to Trina and ... read more
