MERRY CHRISTMAS STOCKHOLM! • From December 24th-27th we toured this lovely (one of our favorite cities!) city • We arrived Christmas Eve with some snow fluff on the ground-- quite beautiful • We walked the hallowed streets and there was nothing to eat- NO CHINESE!!! • Hotel to the rescue a nice dinner buffet-- that was a bit pricey! • Christmas day- slept-in (what more do you do?), Ice-skating in Kungsträdgården park, World’s largest Christmas Tree, stands 125 meters with the star, dine on pizza and gyros, it wasn't Chinese, but it was our own tradition! • Wake up ready for site-seeing—walk around the old cobble-stone streets, peak in the windows (we rose too early for most shop owners). • Hit up the Noble Prize Award Hall. Beautiful building. All the noble prizes are awarded here ... read more

Budapest Blog 5 Days in Budapest (heavy on the 'shh' & only pronounced correctly if you end up accidentally spitting) - December 4th-8th Note - Budapest is made up of two cities, Buda (the hill side) and Pest (the ‘cosmopolitan side’) divided by the river Danube and unified back in 1872. Here’s the quick n’Skinny • Set up shot at the lesser-know Hungarian SOHO Hotel… definitely up-n’coming.. • Took the royal city bus tour to get our bearings of the city AND more importantly, get out of the freezing rain. o BUDA side (hills and provides an unimaginable view of the Pest side, across the Danube) • Royal Castle • Fishermen's Bastion • The Citadel (highest point in Buda) • Baths (we loved the Bath from Friday night) - large steamy baths outside that provide necessary ... read more

Little behind on the BLOG, we know... but figured it would take this long for anyone actually trying to read every word of it. (Thanks again to those of you who do, and yes, we understand that a lot of you are handling this BLOG the same way we all got through grade-school... look at the pics, read the captions and make up your own story. We still appreciate your interest!) København, Denmark ...an exhaustingly exiting weekend of site-seeing and such. So, after a grueling bus/ferry combo through the night we kicked off our adventure on Saturday as we pulled into town around 5:00 in the morning; walking, napping, sailing, walking, drinking, listening, walking, riding, swinging, walking, eating our way through Copenhagen and sleeping (in shifts) on the bus-ride back, Sunday at midnight. Highlights: - 5:00AM ... read more

I'm not going to pretend that I'm not aware that my 'outer-wear' in our travel photos are similar. At best I'm able to switch out a scarf or two, I'm willing to address the situation on here with all of you. This outer-wear concern was first brought to my attention by my self-conscienceness-- I have always been someone who has taken terrific pride in her fashion-sense, I like to think it's my sixth-sense. The second time it was brought to my attention was from a great friend of mine who knows me a little too well (and how to crawl under my skin and lay there with a megaphone), Leslie. She has voiced her concern on two occasions now about how my choice of repeated 'outer-wear' has her convinced that I'm "obsessed" with these items. I ... read more

With 6 bags between the two of us, getting to and from the airport can be a challenge. We somehow managed to pack our lives back up, including any new items we might have aquired, and began our journey to our new home in Hamburg. Since we’d already been introduced to our new city from the SMM Boat Show back in September, we knew exactly what to expect—which was nice. A few hours up in the air and some 6-bag-tackling later, we were in the taxi and on our way to the Clipper-Elb Lodge—where we’d be residing for the next 3 months. It’s a good location, right by the water and it’s close to bus stops, subways and walking paths. Grant either bikes or hitches a ride with a friend to work (a little over a ... read more

We saw Wales!

Driving into the city, we had heard that we could be visiting a city occupied by aliens. Rumor has it that the Welsh and the English don’t get along too well. We were curious to get a peak at these extraterrestrial folks. Grant had snatched us some sweet tickets to the Cardiff Blues (Wales capital) vs. the Leicester Tigers (England) Rugby match. This was my first non- OSU rugby match, but I knew I was equipped with enough knowledge to enjoy the game. The Leicester Tigers are CAT sponsored so Grant had a tough time deciding who (I realize gramatically speaking, whom is the correct word here, but I just couldn't do that) to root for, the home team or team CAT. Grant was a helpful fan clueing me in on any play I might of ... read more

I see Ali left off at the train to Cork. I have to hand it to her, she verbally painted her hefty 12-year old co-pilot in a fair light but here's a picture to do him justice! And the funny part is, we actually conned (well, Ali shoved) some poor local out of his seat claiming, "We have 'reservations' for those two seats!" …that was totally incorrect. Confused and abiding by the irrational American's demands, the poor guy wandered around and luckily found another seat. Apparently this train constantly overbooks; people were stuck sitting on the floor, in-between cars, for the 3+hr journey, but not us! (Phew) As we pulled in to the station at Cork, Bryan, an Irish friend of mine that I met while traveling the Galapagos (the "odd-couple" bunkmates on a first-class honeymooners ... read more

As I'm running in my boots (that have heels) I see Grant slipping around the corner. I've decided that with Grant and I, getting to the airport is like a sport. We have all the necessary gear to get us a win, but we somehow always manage to be losing to the other team-- time. I'll fast forward and let you know that we ran about a mile to the bus stop a necessary mode of transport to get us to the airport and we made the flight on time. I was sweating and exhausted, but it was still a victory for team G&A. The RyanAir flight to Dublin was easy and we were surprised at what a short flight it was, but were happy to be there, Grant especially as his ancestry hails from this ... read more

Good morning to you all! Sorry for the delay in my blog, we took too many pictures so we had to wait and upload those bad boys before I could write you (y'all really just like the pictures, right?!). I know I'm a visual learner :) We ended up driving about three and a half hours South to a place called Cornwall, New Quay (New Key) to be exact. It's UK's surfing capital. Everywhere you look there's a person holding a surfboard and their dress is a wet suit, they may have a toboggan on and different colored flops, but they all pretty much look the same. Upon arrival we located our hotel--- but no one was home. We rang the doorbell and called only to be told our reservation had been cancelled because we were ... read more

Cheerio' to you all-- I didn't have internet at all last week and things have been pretty busy lately for Grant and I. We arrived in England last Tuesday (September 30). We drove down (Southwest) a couple of hours from London to a hotel near our final location-- Poole. I've settled us in and it's a very homey/roomey place (we have three bedrooms/2 full bathrooms) Grant works in Wimborne (a little ways down the road) and commutes everyday. I'm impressed with his ability to drive on the wrong side of the car and road. We live right by the sea and last week I became very familiar with this area as it's a great place to run. This weekend Grant and I decided to explore England (the countryside) and we enjoyed every moment! The views were ... read more
