01 Canal
We walked along the canal towards Newhaven. Geo: 55.6763, 12.5681
Early this morning Jess, AJ, Charne, Dee and I caught a taxi to Stansted Airport and got on the plane for Copenhagen. A few months ago Dee and I were looking for cheap flights for weekends away- this trip was one of them. We all slept on the plane.
Once we arrived we caught the train into the centre of town and went in search of our hostel. It was easy to find once we correctly read the map. This place was in a great location, clean and easy to find. We dumped our backpacks and wandered around the city.
I had been here before so I had a good idea of where I wanted to go again and the girls weren't happy to go along with my suggestions. We walked along the canal and came to Newhaven - a fishing port with many seafood restaurants. It was pretty much lunch time, so we found a nice restaurant to eat at. The rule was that we had to eat food that was traditional, so we all had fish in some form or another.
After lunch we continued walking towards the Little Mermaid Statue. Along the way we passed The
02 Horse Statue
This statue is in a square just off the canal. Marble Church, the Russian Orthodox Church, a statue of Winston Churchill and then we came to the gardens where the Little Mermaid is. We then walked through the castle area which is now a military barracks. Kept on wandering and came across a park. In the middle of the park is the Rosenborg Castle.
Then the group split up, Jess and I went to the Botanical Gardens and Dee, Charne and AJ went back to the hostel. I am really enjoying Copenhagen. We all commented on how clean the city is compared to London and how nice it is to breathe in clean air. We spent the evening chilling out and playing cards at the hostel.
