Friday morning upon arriving in Copenhagen, we headed straight for our hotel to drop off our luggage. Luckily they had a room ready early for us. After leaving our luggage in our room, we headed to a bakery at the train station for crosants. Then we took a walking tour of the city again guided by Rick Steves. We walked along the Stroget, a long pedestrain only street. We also took a rainy canal cruise, ate ice cream in fresh waffle cones, and gazed at the statue of little mermaid. We dragged our tired feet back to the hotel for a quick nap. Later we ate dinner at Wagamama, a new trendy Asian noodle place. The food was great! Then we headed into Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagens 169 year old amusement park and Walt Disney's inspiration for ... read more

Denmark, the first of many weekend breaks over this summer, this time with Leo who I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t seen since before Christmas. It was little surprise to us that our no-frills flight was running a little behind schedule; however it was a bit of a shock when we arrived at our hotel to find the reception closed! and no sign of life anywhere! No one answered the door bell or phone that we could hear ringing on the other side… Realising that we were not going to get into this hotel any time soon, we started scouring the city for another place to stay, as it fast approached midnight. We did find a place not too far away with the door open, sign outside and a guy behind the reception - phew! It ... read more

We jumped ship this morning at 9.58am. At 10.00am it rained!! Viewing the little (very tiny) mermaid in the rain all added to the ambience. The infamous statue was so nothing that we didn’t even bother with the obligatory photo. However, we did take some shots of the other most photographed attraction in Copenhagen - Nyhaven. The brightly coloured rows of houses/cafes either side of the canal was also slightly disappointing. I guess you must have to enjoy a Carlsberg in the sunny outside cafes for it to live up to the vividness of the tour books. We sat on a bench in St Nicholas’ churchyard to enjoy a strawberry danish pastry before heading out towards the free loving world of Christiana. A hippy commune - intriguing but a little uncomfortable. Much of its appeal for ... read more

Finke-rail, here we come...... read more

Hi guys, so it's been almost forever since I've updated my blog. So much has happened that this is probably going to take me a couple hours to write. Over the last two weeks I was able to visit the park, the harbour, and the beach (beach yay!!). Each of them made me feel like as if I was part of some movie because they were so beautiful. First off the park in Copenhagen is like no other park I have ever seen. It's really big and spacious -- like two Horlacks put together . There is a lake, a waterfall, and you can go paddle boating. Ducks and swans (well I think they're swans....looks like them anyway ha ha) roam around, and there are beautiful bridges that connect to the other side of the park. ... read more

The big day has arrived and all the hassle with getting my stuff together has begun. Alot of people would think it's stupid not to begin preparing a bit before the day you leave, but that's not the way i do it. All though i've already done a bit of prep, i've gotten anti histimins, because apperently the mosquitos in Alaska is one step away from being as dangerous as people carrying weapons. Anyway, im looking forward to my 14 hour flight and especially if im gonna get searched while entering the us, i bet they will suspect someone like me for all kinds of funny things. I hope my journey will go smooth, but i cant really predict anything, so im just hoping for the best, and i cant wait to see my sister again, ... read more

I joined Lara on a trip around the Baltic sea. We started out in Copenhagen, where we visited the little mermaid and I enjoyed a ride at the front of the metro train (which has no driver). When we left Copenhagen, we drove down through Denmark to Gedser, passing lots of wind turbines on our way. Gedser is the most Southerly town in Denmark! At Gedser, we caught a ferry over to Germany - the photos are of me at the port, waiting for the ferry to arrive.... read more

Well what an effort it took to finally get out of Sweden! First I had to get up at seven in the morning (saturday 5th July) to get out to the airport for my flight from Visby to Gothenburg; only because there was no public transport service I had to walk for an hour fully loaded up to get out there! :-( Then having landed at Landvetter Airport I had to take a bus into the centre of Gothenburg, and then walk for another twenty minutes fully loaded up to make it out to the ferry terminal, not even knowing whether there were any seats left because I couldn't book a seat over the internet thanks to my useless 'emergency replacement' mastercard! Thankfully though there were still seats available, and the ferry ride from Sweden to ... read more

Geo: 54.8888, 10.4097Jenny apologized to me first thing in the morning, thinking that she had woken me up today, but the truth is that even getting up at 8:30, I had slept in much later than normal. It was an oven in the room last night, but surprisingly I slept quite well. We walked into town together, as she ate her nutella and bread for breakfast, while I popped into a bakery and got mine. We sat on the beach for awhile, and noticed a middle-aged couple kayaking, with only the lady in front doing any paddling. "Must be an Asian couple!", I quipped. Jenny asked why some Asian couples were like that, and I could only shrug my shoulders and offer an explanation of "Who knows, it's just the way it is!" Jenny showed me ... read more
