Hi guys, so it's been almost forever since I've updated my blog. So much has happened that this is probably going to take me a couple hours to write.
Over the last two weeks I was able to visit the park, the harbour, and the beach (beach yay!!). Each of them made me feel like as if I was part of some movie because they were so beautiful.
First off
the park in Copenhagen is like no other park I have ever seen. It's really big and spacious -- like two Horlacks put together . There is a lake, a waterfall, and you can go paddle boating. Ducks and swans (well I think they're swans....looks like them anyway ha ha) roam around, and there are beautiful bridges that connect to the other side of the park. At the very top of a hill is a breathtaking mansion (which we thought was a castle, but it's not ha ha). It all reminds me of a scene from a movie in the olden days where a boy and a girl has a lovely picnic on a boat and she has an umbrella and all. To top it off, the
zoo is right by so we had a perfect view of the elephants. We walked the park, bought some ice cream, watched the elephants, and climbed up the hill (...I pulled my bum muscle once again :S) to see the mansion. That was a perfect day and I was so content. I love eating ice cream and watching elephants 😊
The jazz festival took place last week so we decided to head down to the canal. We went to a grocery shop nearby to buy some bread, cheese, cookies, strawberries and champagne. I think we arrived when everybody got off work so the place was packed. It was such a fun atmosphere -- there were people having drinks at the restaurants and cafes by the canal, and the ledge where the canal was, was also full of people. We finally found a spot along the canal and settled there. It was a good thing that Liz had a knife in her purse because that's what we used to slice the bread and cheese (don't worry the knife was from when she had a picnic in the park. This is nothing like a Martina story ha ha). I don't think
I have ever enjoyed cheese as much as the one that we bought that day. A girl from France actually suggested that cheese and omg she knows her cheese. I think it was brie--it had a harder outside and a soft creamy inside...kind of like a chocolate truffle, except it's cheese mmm.... anyway so to top off that dinner we had champagne and strawberries
and cookies with a chocolate and peanut topping. By the time we finished dinner the jazz festival started. It sounded fun and stuff...in theory, but then I remembered that I don't even like jazz. The other girls didn't either so we just headed on home. I don't really remember what we did after but I think we went to one of our rooms to watch Arrested Development. I don't believe that have I mentioned that there are no tv's here at all. Well there are tvs in Copenhagen but we just don't have any in our dorms or at school or anywhere in our vicinity. I didn't know I missed it until I started watching Arrested Development. We easily spent the rest of the night glued to Abby's laptop.
Beach day :D Beach
day was my favorite day of all because I love the beach. Unfortunately the one in Copenhagen is man-made and not as gorgeous as other ones as I have seen, but it sure beats Sylvan Lake so I love it. The beach is about half hour away and it is quite a walk from the metro station so by the time we arrived we were glad to be in our bathing suits. It was perfect because it was a really hot day. After lazing around for a bit we decided it was time to go off the jump, so we went to go jump off a 20feet jump. It was sooo much fun! The jump didn't even look that high....until I got up there; but by the time I got up there it was too late to run back so I had to go for it. It was scary not only because we were high up, but the water was supposedly freezing and there are jelly fishes in the water. I ended up doing it a couple more times. After that we lazed around for the rest of the time before heading back to get ready to go out....
The park
The mansion is the building at the top. The hill is much steeper than it looks here. Going out was so much fun last week. On Thursday (July 3) night we went to a bar called Kolle bar (we don't know how to pronounce it so we just call it 'cool bar'). All the CBS students headed to this bar because we found out that you pay 60 DKK (so like $12) for cover and free beer until 1am. Although I was still sick I dragged myself there because I really didn't want to miss out ( and my friends weren't really giving me a choice). The beer there was surprisingly good. I don't drink beer b/c it tastes yucky but I was able to tolerate the ones served at this bar. After a few I forgot that I was even sick. We danced for a few hours before heading outside for some air. By the time we got outside it was pretty late (must have been after 1am b/c the free beer was no longer free) but people were still trying to get into the clubs. There were a couple of students who just graduated from high school (you can tell b/c all high school graduates wear these captain hat looking things. The different colors of
bands indicates what they graduated from) who came up to us and asked us to get them in. Abby was quick to agree and licked her stamp and imprinted it on one of the guys' wrist. I didn't even know you could do that!! So that's what we did for the other guy too, and even though the bouncer probably saw us do that they let the guys in. The guys got us drinks b/c they were so grateful. My friends and I resumed to the dance floor and the two high school kids were glued to the bar. The night ended up with us giggling all the way home.
On Friday (July 4) night we were going to go to Vega, which is supposed to be the coolest place to go in Copenhagen. Last minute, we were told about free champagne at another club called Celsius. Free champagne went until 12am, and free cover at Vega went until 1am so decided to get the best of both worlds. We dressed up extra fancy (because we heard Vega had a strict dress code) and ended up at Celsius at about 11:30. Celsius is a really nice club-- there are
round leather sofas everywhere and it looks so luxurious. The bathroom was really cool...well sort of. The stalls are pretty like the Earl's restaurant bathroom doors, but unlike Earl's you can actually see through these ones. So people inside the stalls can see outside but obviously people from the outside cannot see inside the stall. It was so mind-boggling. On top of the sinks was a really modern looking plasma tv, which is cool...but what was playing on the tv was
not cool :S 😞 They also had this really cool looking machine that was all pink and fun, but the products that it sold was highly unorthodox....as in are you even allowed to sell that in a bathroom?! :S 😞 Anyways, after our fascination with the bathroom we finally headed back outside for some champagne and then went to Vega.
Vega was such a long walk and it didn't end up being as fun as we expected. They played this jamaican music type music that was really hard to dance to and we didn't want to drink anymore so we took off and went home to bed early. Somebody told us after that Vega is normally 3
floors but there was an exclusive event going on that day so only one floor was open. Perhaps we'll give it another shot sometime.
So that was my going out-ness for that week. I really want to check out some more places but I already missed a weekend here (cuz i went to PRAGUE!) and I'm going to Oslo this weekend 😊 I guess I'll just have to start making use of my weeknights 😉
