Wenshan Hot Spring Asia » Taiwan » Hualien
Read about a hot spring in the wilderness. Once our host at Heartstay B&B, Yang Baba & Mama, knew that we wanted to visit this hot spring, they went out of the way to check around if the hot spring is accessible. The last they knew was that the place was destroyed by some tyhoon some years ago. But their friends confirmed that it's now accessible again. Yohoo! After visiting the other sights at Taroko, it's time for our hot spring. Had to climb over railings, cross a suspension bridge, slip down some big rocks and tada... finally we get to [View Full Entry]

Tapas Tapas Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona
Barcelona provides a whole new culinary experience. You'll be spoilt for choices. Food that still lingers in my mind 1. Chocolate Caliente con churros (hot chocolate with churros). Tried the one at Cafe de la Opera along Las Ramblas. The chocolate is sooo rich and thick, yet not too sweet. Goes perfectly well with freshly fried churros. 2. Paella. Mixed paella, black ink rice and seafood paella. La Fonda and Les Quinze serve pretty good (and affordable) stuff. Be prepared to queue though. 3. Figeus Noodle. One of the catalan dishes. Spagehettini (or bee hoon in our context), serve [View Full Entry]

A French Wedding Europe » France
The POV (purpose-of-visit) for this Europe trip. Have only seen it on movies and TV, never dream that I'll get a chance to attend one myself. Am very privileged to be invited by Jiahui & Antonin to attend their wedding. Wonder how the wedding will be, what people will wear, what food will be served :) Will it really be like in the movies? One worrying thing. Other than bringing my dress, I have to pack in my kok kok shoes and matching handbag in my backpack. Never had to travel as a backpacker with a formal dress + heels and [View Full Entry]

Paris - City of Light Europe » France » Īle-de-France » Paris
The first realisation that we're in Paris was when we caught a glimpse of Eiffel Tower and its rotating light at the tip. Wow... dunno why but started to have goosebumps, I'm seeing the real Eiffel Tower, no just the postcard. Spent the next day exploring the Eiffel Tower. But somehow the romantic feel of the Eiffel Tower that I had the previous day simply disappeared, largely due to the long snaking queues waiting to get up the tower. We chose to walk up the first half of the tower instead of taking the "cable car", partly to really discover the [View Full Entry]

Colourful Paris

One of those easiest to move around cities. Everyone speaks English, quite well connected by subway, just that the subway is a bit lap pok. All the things we see in London have been so familiar. Some new English discovery (for me) London Bridge: it's not falling yet Fish & Chips: they aren't as good as I thought it'll be English Hi-Tea: it comes with a hi price too Theatre & Musical: the industry is so alive, so many to choose from Harrods: i love their hi class supermarket Hyde Park: so where's the speakers at the speaker's corner? Very cosmopolitan, [View Full Entry]

4 in 1 Expedition Asia » Malaysia » Perak
Crossed over the new year in a spectacular way. Had an adventurous weekend at Perak with my dear ex colleauges-turned-friend friends. The last time we went on a trekking trip together was in Jan 2006. So glad that we could still put together another trekking trip more than 10 months after we left the company and that almost everyone is working in different place. Committed to the trip without much information, like what exactly we're doing, how much, stay where? Maybe we were just too desperate to go away or maybe also because who cares what we're doing or where are [View Full Entry]

Khmer Dishes Asia » Cambodia
Our first Khmer meal
Our first Khmer meal
Clockwise from top left: My fav amok fish, chicken green curry and banana blossom salad.
Khmer cuisine is not as well-knowned as Thai and Vietnamese cuisine, but definitely taste as good. My favourite Khmer dish is Amok fish. It's fish cooked with coconut milk, wrapped in banana leaves, taste something like otak. Had it for almost every dinner in Siem Reap :) Another dish that I enjoyed was fish sour soup, a fish soup cooked with ginger, lemongrass and pineapple. A bit like tom yam soup but without the spicyness. When we were in Battambang, we had all 3 meals at the White Rose cafe. They have a few hundred dishes on their menu and their [View Full Entry]

Boat ride to Battambang
Boat ride to Battambang
They tried to pack as many people on the boat as possible
Took a boat from Siem Reap to Battambang, the second largest city in Cambodia. The 7 hours boat ride took us passed many interesting floating villages, picking and alighting passengers at the villages on the way. With many photo opportunities along the scenic ride, 7 hours on the boat was still bearable. Upon arrival, met with many touts to solicit for customers to stay in the hotel they work for, with stiffest competition from Chaya and Royal Hotel. We chose Chaya Hotel and was led by the tout to board the mini-van to bring us to the hotel. Guess many others [View Full Entry]
