Spent the last few days in Mendoza, a town somewhere in Central Argentina. This small town is famous for its wineries (bodegas) and it produces 70% of the wine in Argentina. It also provides pretty much options for outdoor activities like water-rafting, trekking, mountain biking, skiing (but in winter only) etc. Like the relaxing feel of this town. Shops are closed in the afternoon from 1 to 5pm for siesta and everything seems to come to a standstill in the afternoon. By evening, the shops are reopen, and people can hang out till pretty late at night. Yes, itīs safe to [View Full Entry]

Today is our last day in Bueno Aires. Having mixed feelings abt the place. Hate to leave this bustling city where you can get anything you want but yet looking forward to visit those cold-till-u-must-wrap-like-bah-zhang yet scenic places like Mt Aconcagua and Patangonia. Have had a wonderful week here in BA. Met Lisa, our amazing roommate, Lisa, who has been travelling for almost 2 years, after working and saving up for 8 years. Shared her wonderful travel experience and gave us very good advice on the places to visit. We also explored many interesting places like San Telmo, Caminito, Rec [View Full Entry]

San Telmo

Wanted to watch a soccer match in Brazil but since it was the Carnaval period, there were no soccer matches on. Moreover, after all the misadventures, we didnīt want to further traumatise ourselves by going to a stadium with rowdy crowds. So we decided to go to the next best alternative, watch a soccer match in Argentina. We watched the match between Boca Juniors (supposedly a pretty famous team here) vs Quilmes A.C. The stadium is located in the La Boca area, which is supposed to be a more dangerous area where one shldnīt wander ard, so we decided to join [View Full Entry]

Dedicated to people who like condensed milk. Itīs so nice that I think I must share it with you. Dulce de leche! Meaning ssomething like sweet milk in English. Itīs a caramel looking thing that is made from condensed milk! Thought it was caramel when I first tried it. Didnīt think Iīd like it cos I usually dun like caramel. But as I tasted it, I gradually grown to enjoy the taste. To my pleasant surprise, itīs actually made from condensed milk with some vanilla essence. No wonder I like it :) You can spread it on bread like peanut butter [View Full Entry]

Found out that thereīs a place called Tigre when we went to Chinatown the other day. Our roommate told us that itīs a nice little colonial town and so we decided to go explore. Took a 45min train ride to Tigre. Pretty nice as it passes through the residential area. Also itīs interesting to observe people in the train. Itīs amazing to see the variety of stuff people here sell in the train, from pirated Nike handphone pouch, socks to chocolate cookies. Some of them just stuff their merchandise into our hands. If we like it, weīll pay him after he [View Full Entry]

By the river

Went to explore more of Bueno Aires today. Visited a cathedral, some parks and some plazas with statues of generals or pioneer of something. The most exciting part was that we saw many police officers, camera crew and reporters along a street as they wait for a protest against some legislation that was just passed down (I guess). BA gives me a very European feeling with their european style architecture, statues and sidewalk cafes. Bump into a shopping street. Goodness! The things here are so cheap (eg, we each bought a set of bikini that costs S$4.50 haha) But but but.... [View Full Entry]

Weīve finally got out of Brazil safely and arrived in Bueno Aires (BA) in a luxurious business class coach. The seat allows u to recline to almost horizontal and they provide water and coffee at all times. Dinner is inclusive and is served in pretty classy restaurant, the kind with waiters dressed in shirt and vest. We had a 3 course meal with free flow of soft drinks, beer, wine and champagne! After dinner, the bus captain (or shld I say the bus steward) served sweets and liquor. We were joking that maybe breakfast will be served in the morning, and [View Full Entry]

Oh no... I couldnīt resist the temptation. I bought a pair of slippers-looking Ipanema sandals yestesday. Iīve been controlling, really. Saw so many nice slippers in Rio but I didnīt buy. But this one very nice and cheap, so, hee... Hmmm.... How am I going to squeeze this 5th pair of shoes in my backpack? [View Full Entry]

Iguazu Falls is divided between Brazil and Argentina, with 25% in Brazil and 75% in Argentina. Some argue that itīs better at the Brazilian side cos you can get the paranoma view of it while the Argentina side brings you closer to the falls. We did the Brazilian side yesterday and the Argentina side today. Conclusion. We definitely prefer the Argentina side. See the picture for yourself. Do we have to say more? [View Full Entry]

Foz de Iguazu

Finally got out of Rio. Took a long long journey from Rio de Janiero to Foz do Iguacu. On this 25 hrs journey, some thoughts abt the interesting habits of Brazilian ppl flashed through my mind. Hereīs some to share (pictures to be accompanied later) 1. With Rio being renowned for its beautiful beaches, it is without doubt that we get to see ppl walking ard in swimwear. But in this city, they not only wear swimwear on the beach but also on the streets, on buses & subway, at street parades and even at places of interest like the statue [View Full Entry]
