Peruvian Strike South America » Peru » Cusco » Cusco
Travelled by bus from Puno to Cuzco. The bus was originally scheduled at 8am, but there was a strike somewhere along the way from Cuzco to Puno, so the bus could not arrive in Puno. We were put onto another bus that leaves 1 hour later, arriving in Cuzco at 3.30pm. After travelling for 4hrs, the bus got stuck somewhere along the way cos the strike was still on. The villagers blocked the road with rocks, causing a massive jam. Heard from others that they went on strike cos the American products are now cheaper than Peruviansī. We waited and waited [View Full Entry]

Just spent the last few days in Lake Titicaca, on both Bolivia and Peru side. This is the largest freshwater lake and is the highest commercially navigation lake in the world, at an altitude of 3,800m. Visited the islands in the lake, Isla del Sol (Island of Sun) in Bolivia, and Isla de Los Uros (Floating Island), Isla Amantani and Isla Taquile in Peru. My favourite is definitely the Floating Island! Yes, it may have become very touristy, but itīs still very amazing for me. The islands are home of the Uros people. The islands, their homes an boats are made [View Full Entry]

Mossy waters
Lake Titicaca

Arrived in La Paz after 12 hours of torture. The overnight bus we took from Uyuni was smelly, freezing cold and squeezy. La Paz is the highest capital city of the world, located at 3,600m in the high valley of the Andes. It give me a modern city mixed with a little indigeneous feel. Many of the older generation are still dressed in their traditional Bolivian costumes. The market scene here is really lively. I like. The things they sell range from Bolivian snacks, toiletries, handicrafts, accessories etc. At Plaza San Francisco, itīs always crowded with lotsa of people at all [View Full Entry]

Took a 3 days road trip, starting from San Pedro De Atacama to Uyuni, Bolivia. Reminded me very much of my Tibet trip. Just that the songs that we hear are not Deng Lijun or Ah Tu, but some Bolivia pop songs. Over these 3 days, we travelled through beautiful altiplano lakes, extremely hot desert and vast salt plain. And this is the first time I experience a mirage like those in storybook. We all thought we saw reflection of a train on the water. But thereīs no water. So this is the meaning of seeing a mirage in a desert [View Full Entry]

Ahhh...
Salar de Uyuni

Weīre now in San Pedro de Atacama. Itīs like an oasis in a desert, a little touristy town in a vast dry desert and salt plain area. Visited Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) and Geysers El Tatio. The terrain in Valle de la Luna is supposed to be similar to Mars wor. Suppose to catch sunset there, but in the end, we caught the full moon rising instead. Think itīs more appropriate since itīs called the Moon Valley. For the geysers, we had to wake up at 3.30am. It was freezing cold at -10degree. And worst, we have to combat [View Full Entry]

El Tatio Geysers

Have arrived in Pucon, in the Lake District of Chile. Not quite like the one in Argentina, Bariloche, smaller and a little more backward. Did the must-do-it-thing in Pucon, climb the Volcano Villarica, at 2840m high . Heard from many travellers that itīs really nice but pretty tough. Quite worried tt I canīt make it esp when I didnīt feel too well after arriving in Pucon. Woke up at 6am to prepare for the climb. Took all the nec equipment from the tour agencies, our crampons, waterpoof jackets and pants, gloves etc and off we set off. Glad that the chairlift [View Full Entry]

We have been meeting people from all over the world in hostels, in the mountains or at places where we visited. And the amazing thing is, we still meet them after a week or a month later at some other part of the world. Even in our tiny Singapore, itīs not so often that meet friends/ acquaintance on the streets. Just a few examples of the people that we have met, not once but a couple more time. 1. Uncle Lufthansa: First met at Ushuaia Hostel. A week or so later, we met again in Torres Del Paine 2. 3 Sweet [View Full Entry]

We were at Chiloe Island for the last few days, which was not quite within our plans. Heard from others that itīs very nice here, so we decided to come and take a look for ourselves. Chiloe Island is an archipelago at the southern part of Chile with rolling green hills and friendly people. Not forgetting their fantastic seafood. Arrived in Castro, the capital of Chiloe. We have very little info abt the place and hop on to the nearest accomm we could see after we arrive at the bus terminal. The hostel is run by a local Chilean, which means [View Full Entry]

Preparing Curanto
And after itīs done...

Spent the last 3 days travelling from El Chalten to Bariloche. We had to take a bus from El Chalten to El Calafate, wait for 6 hrs for a 16hrs bus ride to Commodoro Rivadaria, then wait for another 14hrs before catching a 14hrs bus ride to Bariloche. The most rewarding part of the journey is being able to catch a beautiful sunrise somewhere along the way. Came back to Bariloche for 2 days before hopping over to Chile. Grabbed all opportunities for more ice-cream and chocolates. Celebrated our 2nd month anniversary in Bariloche again. What a coincidence! This time, we [View Full Entry]

Fitzroy

We saw a poster on ice trekking and ice climbing in our hostel and we decided to give it a try! But then we had to first trek for 3 hours, traverse across a river and trek for another 1.5hr to get to the glacier. Then after ice trekking and ice climbing, weīll take the same way back. Guess the chance of walking on the glacier is just too tempting that we decided to still go for it despite having returned from our 2 camping trip with blisters and aches the day before. Had to start trekking before the sun rise. [View Full Entry]
