Angkor Temples Asia » Cambodia » North » Angkor
Have always assumed Angkor Wat refers to the group of temples somewhere in Cambodia. Only to realise that it is actually the name of only one, and the most famous one, among the many temples built over the last few hundred years. Was really impressed by Angkor Wat our first visit. Went to catch the sunset at Angkor Wat, really beautiful. The sun rays luminated the towers, giving it an orange glow. Tried to climb up to the top of the towers to get a better view of the sunset, was quite overwhelmed with their high and narrow steps at first [View Full Entry]

Leaving for Cambodia Asia » Singapore
Yoohoo! Shortly after my South America, I'm travelling again, to Cambodia! Explored almost all parts of Indochina, something that I've set out to do. These countries are almost same same but different in their own ways. Committed myself to this trip last Dec. Since Air Asia was giving free tickets away, grab first! At that time, can't foresee what I'll be doing, will I still be in South America or have I embarked on a new career? Well, the answer is: I'm still shaking leg at home. Invited a few others to take this "gamble" at that time and ZXL really [View Full Entry]

Afterthought South America
Still adjusting to life after South America. Miss those carefree days when we travelled wherever whenver we wanted and meeting new people everyday. Visited 5 countries, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru on this trip. A little review of the places and people we met. (All based on my personal preference) Accommodation "Cosiest" Hostel: Hostel Central in Castro, Chiloe. 3 of us had to squeeze into a tiny little room with absolutely no walking space, esp when our big bags filled up the only little space left. Most comfortable hostel: Hostel Glacier, Calafate. Floor heat [View Full Entry]

Home Sweet Home Asia » Singapore
Am finally home after 4 months of wandering around in South America. Do miss the days of seeing amazing sights and having new encounters everyday but am also very happy to be back to comfy of home. So happy that I can shower, without worrying that the water might turn cold suddenly. So happy that I can sleep on my own comfortable and clean bed, without having the need to be covered in thick blankets, having difficulties tossing around in bed. So happy that I can eat home-cooked food, without having to scratch my head on what to cook for dinner [View Full Entry]

Spent the last 5 days on my own in Mendoza (Argentina) and Santiago de Chile, cos OSM has to fly home a few days earlier to attend to some matters. These 5 days has been a totally new and unforgettable experience for me. Have never backpacked on my own, though I've always harboured that thought. Am always inspired by solo female travellers whol I met on the trip, esp those small and frail looking Asian girls. But one reason why they travelled alone is because they couldnīt find someone to match their schedule to travel with them. So far, I have [View Full Entry]

Mendoza - Chile Border
My comfort food

Iīm back in Argentina again! Decided spend the last few days on my South America trip in Mendoza to laze, eat and shop. And what a time to be at Argentina! Realise that Argentina is playing against Serbia and Montenegro in the morning when the people at the hostel were planning to go to a nearby pub to watch the match. Was pondering if I should join them but thought getting my return bus ticket was more important. While walking along the streets, realise many shops are closed just because they are watching the match. And almost everyone on the streets [View Full Entry]

Visited the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyon in the world, twice as deep as the Grand Canyon. But the highlight of the trip was to spot condors at Cruz del Condor. The canyon is home to the Andean condors. From the viewpoint, we could admire the majestic condors soaring over the canyon. Each condor can spread their wings to around 2m wide. So like National Geographic! There was one that even soar right above our heads. Was really an jaw dropping sight! Somehow, condors reminds me of Jin Yong Xiao Shuo. Guess itīs the novels that ĻmajestifyĻ these birds [View Full Entry]

Went on a tour to the Nazca lines today. After the tour, the guide asked if we would like to visit the school where he teaches English. Since we have nothing to do in the evening while waiting for the bus to Arequipa, we decided to go check out how the schools here look like. We were dragged to the front of the class when we arrived. We played temp English cum Geography teacher, introducing ourselves in English and showing where Singapore is on the world map. And then we were made to teach them pronounciation of numbers, making the students [View Full Entry]

Spent the last few days in Huaraz, a town near to Cordillera Blanca, a mountain range with the highest mountain in Peru. Many trekking opportunities here, but since we only have 2 weeks left and many other places to visit in Peru, we had to make do with just a day trek to Llanganuco and Lago 69. Engaged a guide for the day trek. Since itīs only the 2 of us, itīs more economical to take public transport to the national park. It was really an unforgettable experience taking the local public transport. The only form of public transport here are [View Full Entry]

The Inca Ruins South America » Peru » Cusco » Machu Picchu
Visited many ruins left from Inca empire around Cuzco and finally got to see the most renowned ruins, Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu, sometimes called the "Lost City of the Incas", is a well-preserved Inca ruin located on a high mountain ridge. It was forgotten for centuries by the outside world and was only rediscovered in 1911. Wanted to do the Inca Trail to reach the Macu Picchu, but due to high demand, we could not get ourselves the necessary permit to do the trail. We took the easy way, that is to take the tourist train from Cuzco to Machu Picchu. [View Full Entry]
