Went to El Chalten after spending at few days at Calafate. Just when we thought that it would be quite some time before we would camp again, we were tempted by the pictures taken at sunrise of Mt Fitz Roy taken by a gp of Israeli guys. We decided to camp 1 night at Parque National Los Glacier in El Chalten. El Chalten is 4 hrs away from Calafate and there´re really nothing other than mountains surrounding small little quiet town. As the climbing season is over in a few days, there´re very few travellers and many shops haved closed for [View Full Entry]

And more of Cerro Fitz Roy

Came back to Argentina after the trek at Torres Del Paine. Arrived at El Calafate and did the touristy stuff like visiting the Moreno Glacier and horse back riding at Cerro Frias. At the Moreno Glacier, you could admire the glacier pretty near from a terrace. It´s fascinating, just standing there, waiting for big blocks of ice falling into the waters. And we took a boat ride that brought us upclose to the walls of the glacier. We even got to try glacier ice with our favourite dulce de leche liquor. But well, it taste like just any ice from our [View Full Entry]

Horse riding at Cerro Frias

Realised it has been quite some time since I last update this blog. Have been busy trekking and trekking in Torres Del Paine (Chile) and El Chalten (Argentina). Crossed over to Chile after Ushuaia and did some trekking at Torres Del Paine. It is a spectacular national park in southern Patagonia, famous for its granite peaks, snow clad mountains and glacier-fed lakes. Did a 5 days ¨W´circuit trek. Had to carry our own tents, stove, pots and 5 days of food ration. The weather has been pretty bad for the past week and some travellers returned from the park without completing [View Full Entry]

View from Camp Los Cuernos

We have come to the End of the World, Ushuaia which is the southern most city in the world. Cruise leave from here to the Antartica and guess this will be the nearest I can get to the Antartica. Had only intend to stay here for 4 days but somehow, we spent 6 days here having a wonderful time, not only for the beautiful scenery, but also for the lovely people we meet here in Hostel Cruz Del Sur. The first impression was quite scary. The moment we entered, we see many big guys smoking and drinking and next, we were [View Full Entry]

It´s time for some workout! After a month of hamburgers, ice-cream and chocolates, we thought it´s time for some workout. So we rented a bike to cycle to Punta Loma to see more sea lions. We cycled the first 3km on paved road and turned into a dirt road for the next 17km. Quite glad that the sun is out, if not the wind would have numbed us before we reach Punta Loma. The beginning of the trail was pretty straight and flat. Occasionally, vehicles pass by and covered us in sand and dust. After cycling for abt 4km, we saw [View Full Entry]

The Road

Visited the Península Valdés in Patagonia, a World Heritage Site nominated in 1999. It is the home to elephant seals, sea lions and southern right whales (but not in season) and we can get a chance to see a wide array of wildlife. We joined a tour with with 3 other people from our hostel, two from NZ and one from Scotland. Along the way, we had to spot for wildlife like guanocos (a specie of llama), patagonia hare, armadillos, road-runners etc etc amidst dry bushes. Someone spotted llamas shortly after we enter the reserve. So happy that I finally get [View Full Entry]

We did our first self-drive road trip in Bariloche! There are many lakes and mountains in this region and one of the must-do thing is the Seven Lake route. We could either join a tour or rent a car to drive around the lakes on our own. After hearing from other travellers, the second choice seem more attractive. It cost around the same and we could stop wherever we want to take photos, just that it´s left hand drive and all the cars are manual here. Anyways, we (or shld I say CJ) has decided the take the challenge to drive [View Full Entry]

Blow wind blow
First Month

Spent the last few days exploring Bariloche and doing some short hikes at Cerro Otto and Cerro Caterdral (Cerro means hill, but they´re hills of 1000m - 2000m high). The view up there is really spectacular. Picture speaks a thousand words. Bariloche is nicknamed the Little Switzerland. Other than the snow-capped mountains and the lakes, it is also a chocolate town in Argentina, which gave us good excuse to eat more chocolates :) They aren´t as fantastic as the ones in Switzerland but enough to make me put on a few inches on my waist. Lake Nahuel Huapi
Lake Nahuel Huapi
Cerro Catedral

Staring dreamily out of the window The moon hiding shyly behind the clouds Tiny little stars shining in the milky way The bumpy ride putting me to sleep Woke up to the bright orange rays of the rising sun The mountains standing tall and mighty Turquoise lake water sparkling under the sun Conical shaped trees dancing in the breeze Listening to the familiar songs we love to sing Recalling the happy moments we´ve been through Thinking of what lies in the future for me And the chocolate ice-cream that is waiting for me in Bariloche [View Full Entry]

OSM´s Phobia South America » Argentina » Mendoza » Mendoza
Something new I learnt about my travel companion, OSM. I didn´t know one can react so strangely when you are afraid of something. Mimi (the family dog), a rather big but skinny mongrel, roams freely in the house, mostly in the evening. While we were having dinner one evening, Mimi happend to come by to ¨greet¨us and the next thing I knew, OSM actually stood up on her chair, jumped onto the window ledge and soon onto the dining table. We were SOOOOOO shocked to see that kind of reaction from her. After that, she went into hiding and never want [View Full Entry]
