I have almost spent a week in Cairo by now and it feels good to stay in the same place for a while. I decided to sleep in a dorm so I get to meet other travellers and I don't feel as lonely. Yesterday I finally went to see the pyramids and it was indeed very exiting. The bus was the cheapest way to get there and when stepping out I was quite surprised to discover that the pyramids are actually surrounded by a big city ! You usually don't get to see that on the postcards :) Two days ago, [View Full Entry]

Jullietta reminded me kindly that I didn't upload anything about Jordan ! As far as I'm concerned, the highligts were: - Petra, the city carved in rock - Swimming in the dead sea - The barbecue, on the roof of the hotel - My last few days with Jules [View Full Entry]

Driving in Tunisia is ... fun, probably similar to racing but with a lot of moving targets ! We enjoyed Tunisia, from the palmery of Tozer (date havest time) to the lost city of Tataouine where we got to live a few days with a familly who were busy picking up olives. Lessons learnt in Tunisia 1. When driving in the middle of the night, think twice before taking the dirt road, it could become a sand dune and you may spend 2 hours digging your car out of the sand. 2. When sharing a meal over a camp fire [View Full Entry]

Already 3 week spent in Morroco, time flies ! My favourite places are: *Chefchaouen: This cute little town in surrounded by mountains and canabis farms :) The vatmosphere is very friendly and most walls inside the medina (old town) are painted in blue. *Merzouga: Very touristy but still enjoyable, that's the place with the highest sand dunes in morroco (up to 300) meters. Riding a camel for hours is an interesting experience and sandboarding was both difficult and great. *Taroudannt: The southern part of morroco that we visited, close to the snow pics, this city [View Full Entry]

Communal toilets Africa » Morocco
I've got no issues with communal toilets in the hostel. What I have issues with is when people are waiting for you outside the toilet after you've done a big smelly one. [View Full Entry]

Francois and I are recovering from a 2 day camel trek in the sand dunes. SAND DUNE CLIBING TIP # 241 When climbing sand dunes always walk along the ridge of the dune to get to the top. Refer to picture. I nearly missed the sunrise because I thought climbing up the dune face was the way to go, later I realised the footprints I saw on the dune face were those of people going down not up. Camel trekking sounds like a lot of fun but they don't tell you that you might become impotent after riding for than 10 [View Full Entry]

It's been raining for the last few days and people told us it hasn't rained that much since 1996 ! Most people are quite happy about it, despite the floods, since it's good for agriculture. Yesterday, we meet two guys from Casablanca. They were spending a few days in Taroudannt as well and we decided to spend the day at a small berber village, a few kilometers away. We found a bus that was going there. The ticket was 6 dirhams (half a dollar). At some point, the bus stopped and the driver told us he wouln't go further, the road [View Full Entry]

Morroco Africa » Morocco
first pictures of Morroco... Spent a day in the markets of Marrakech. I found a perfect topic for "Stuff that white people love ..." it's "seeing people making things". The best part about the markets was that there are lots of tiny places were people make the goods sold in the markets. Shoes, bags, lanterns, dying fabric, sewing, tanning leather, cutting leather. White people get so excited at seeing this image of people doing these "primitive jobs". We're so used to looking for products that have the label "Made in Italy/Paris/Insert exotic city" we don't appreciate hand made goods. [View Full Entry]

We've been living in the organic farm for about 2 weeks now. I'm sure everybody wants to know how two IT programmers cope with the day to day activities. Well, the good news is that we're doing fine and our hosts (Cherif, Djahida and the children) are very nice. Daily activities can be a bit random. Here is a list of things we did in no specific order: Picking up tomatoes (red, yellow and black) Chopping wood in the forest Helping with the usual house tasks Applying some oil to an old wooden furniture Jullietta went to help selling products at [View Full Entry]
