Day 3 - Bangkok - So I have now been in Bangkok for 48 hours and am finally starting to get the hang of the city. The parts that I have seen have proven to me that Bangkok is truly a crazy city. When I first arrived what stood out must was the smell. If I was going to try and describe it, the entire streets smell like a combination of sewage, fried fish, and a weird smelly cooked beef. It's such an odd smell, they say you get use to it, but I am really not sure if that's possible. So yesterday i did a little exploring, when I first arrived to Bangkok I was dropped off on Kohn San road, at 2 in the morning, and it really wasn't impressive all that was their ... read more

So I have made it to Bangkok The flight wasn't all that bad I slept most of the way.The first two flights I have been on have departed on time and arrived early. Then the flight into Bangkok (where getting there early would definitely help me out), was 30 min late. So I finally landed in Bangkok at just after midnight. The airport there is really old and unorganised. There are hundreds of people walking all over the place, and noddy telling me where I needed to go. I finally made it through customs and out to baggage. I grabbed my bag and was off. As you walk out of the terminal there are tons of people trying to take you all different directions. I finally managed to get a "metered Taxis" they are the cheap ... read more

Here I am in Thailand. The journey was something else. Luckily I slept for the majority of the plane ride. However, it's very strange waking up on the complete other side of the World. It's as if I got caught in a tornado, which spit me out in Thailand. Ha. I connected in Japan. That airport is a sight to see. That whole country is weird. It's as if the airport is a microcosm of the surrounding land. The airport is just how you see Japan in television. Everything is very cartoonish, bright white, strange. It was immaculately clean. Their toilets are sooo weird. I took pictures of it which I'll show you. The toilet seat has this electronic panel on the right with like 100 buttons. It's funny. Posted on the wall were instructions; the ... read more

We returned to Bangkok from Myanmar as we had booked a round-trip ticket from Bangkok to await our reunion with Jon - my friend who we had visited earlier during our trip in Taiwan. Since we had seen everything there is to see in Bangkok - twice now - we decided to take a day trip to the ancient capital city of Siam - Ayuthaya. When in Bangkok (especially when staying on Khao San Rd), there are multitudes of travels agents offering tours, however, we decided to bypass this option and head for the government bus station first thing in the morning. The bus system in Bangkok - including quality of buses - is wonderful; much better than anything we have back in the US. We hopped on a comfortable bus for the two hour ride ... read more

Well what can we say..... Another beach - with lots of Tsunami evacuation signs!!!!! Accomodation was different again!! We had to be careful where we walked as the whole floor bent and we were a good storey above the ground!! Slightly worrying at times - especially when the cats living below our bungalow wouldn't even walk on some areas!!!!! But what the room lacked the staff made up for. They were all really nice and helpful and could even sing a Bob Marley song or two!!!!!!!! Didn't get up to much as tired from the jungle trip and treppidation after finding out our bus trip to Singapore would be 24 hours (not 12 as we were told when we booked it!!) So, I (J) did what I normally do and headed off into the town for ... read more

Koh Sumui was a short stop-over for us before our flight back to Bangkok. Only spending two days on the island meant that we were only able to explore limited parts of the island. Our first day was spent recovering from our last few days. The heat was getting to the point where it was becoming un-pleasent. On the first night we made our way into the main beach for some shopping. The shopping was great - lots of variety but everything we had already seen on our travels and more expensive too. The same 'made in Chang Mai' products are available here - complete with the promise 'made in Koh Sumui!' On our second day we were off early on our hired scooters to explore the island. After visiting some 'okayish' waterfalls we made our ... read more

Hiya all. Nice to hear from you as we love to get comments!!! We had our last day in Aythaya yesterday and we briefly had a look at three more temples as well as a pretty park (see photos). Today we went to Lop Buri and got a nice ensuite room in a hotel for 2 pounds in total!! Bargain! We have already looked at all the sites and so we are off again tommrow to the next place. We are both still in shock from the savage monkey attack at one of the temples. We were walking to it just to get a good photo from behind the wall as didnt want to pay to go in, and then we spotted one monkey and we thought how sweet. We were very wrong! As we walked ... read more

We arrived in Bangkok yesterday, but we're just catching up with the past few days on our last island. Oh, and we added a couple of photos on the last blog, too. We spent the 19th to the 23rd in Koh Tao, a little island north of Koh Phangan. The ferry ride was bit rough, and I just managed to keep my breakfast down! Such a cool little place, we both really enjoyed this island. It's world-reknowned for the diving--pretty much every few meters in the town was a dive shop. However, we made the decision to save a lot of cash and forget diving. Instead, we explored the island on our own and did some snorkeling. The first day we met up with Anna and Chris, our new Kiwi friends who we'd met on Koh ... read more

Dear all, Just wanted to add some of the pictures that I promised in the last entry. Not much to update in the last couple of days -- just a doozy of a sunburn, a little bit of relaxation time, and a lot of planning for the next stint of the journey, which is when the real work begins. I probably won't be in touch much for the next little while... I don't know how much access I'll have to computers in Northern Thailand. But, I will be sure to update before/as I cross through Cambodia into Vietnam in about two and a half weeks time. You are all in my thoughts. Lots of love, ~Lisa~... read more

Hi Everyone! Hope everyone is just peachy. Just a quick one to let you know we are well and are having great time. We found our way on to Koh Tao (or crazy dinosaur island as helen likes to call it) via a 6 hour trip by night boat which was just crammed with thai people it was confusing, scary and very surreal for 11 o'clock at night! It was one of the strangest journeys so far we called it the refugee boat because there were just people laying everywhere. We arrived at 5 in the morning with no clue of where we were or where we were going, the Canadian who befriended me on the boat had left us on our own after telling us he'd show us where to go (I'm not to fond ... read more
