I was going to publish this entry for a long time and I just totally forgot all about it. Sorry about that. Anyways. Taiwan was a lot of fun. I'd have to say this is the best place I've visited so far. People are nice, food is awesome, and there's lots to do. Main story in Tapei: I was on a mountain top village market. I was walking, going to cross a street. I saw a girl from afar and thought to myself, "dang...that girl is hot...." Crossing the street and getting closer to the girl. Ok...maybe she's ok... not exactly hot but very cute. All of a sudden, FLASH FLASH FLASH! People started rushing towards me with cameras in their hands. The last time I checked I wasn't a celebrity. HAHAHA Well, they were not ... read more

Taichung was a fun city. There were many sites to see and lots of food to eat. The main attraction in Taichung was the Aborignal amusement park. Taiwan was not always inhabited by mainland Chinese people. Taiwan actually had Taiwanese people. They can be compared to the Native American Indians in America. The aborignals have several tribes spread out throughout Taiwan. However, there are less and less aboriginals because many of them have mixed in with the Chinese blood. So it's kind of interesting. Well, during this trip I was reading, "The Five People You Meet In Heaven." The main character dies because of a amusement park ride (don't worry I didn't give away the story...the guy is dead from the begining). So, right when I finished the book, we arrive at the amusement park.....hmmmmm....scary. Yeah, ... read more

I arrived in Kaohsiung, Taiwan which is southern Taiwan. The plan for the tour is to arrive in southern Taiwan and make our way up to northern Taiwan. My big uncle book this tour for me so I didn't know what to expect. When I arrived, I met my tour group. To my surprise I was the youngest one in the group. Everyone else was old enough to be my parents. This is was not a bad thing. It was just that they actually treated me as if they were my parents. Later in my travels, I got couples telling me: Couple 1: "Ay ya, wear more clothes..you're going to catch a cold" Couple 2: "Oh yo, don't eat so much of that fruit, you'll get constipated." Couple 3: "Geeee, why you still single...such a shame..." ... read more

Forgive me for my lack of eloquence I have tried so hard to pursue in my earlier blogs. The overwhelming anxiety of a hemispherical move can take its toll sometimes. Many things have changed, and I am sure each and every one of you are as anxious as I am to finally get the story. I arrived into Taipei, Taiwan on January 28th, two days after my 24th birthday. Actually, my plans took me to an unknown industrial city 30km outside of Taipei called Tao Yuan. Little did I know at the time, but this city was the bane of my existence for the 3 ensuing days. Shannon and I had made arrangements with a school called ESL4Asia.com. I should have known something wasn’t quite right with the play on words with the 4 and the ... read more

Well the day has finally come and I'm on my way out of Taiwan in about 15 hours. This is just a quick e-mail to let you know that I will be sending out group e-mails on my adventures as the months go by. I can't explain how it saddens me to leave Taiwan, as it had such an impact on my life. But I guess I'll be making new memories when my travels begin. For those of you here in Taiwan I'll miss you all very much and I hope we all keep in touch. I had a great time. Take care of yourselves and maybe someday we'll cross paths again. To those of you back home in Canada, well I guess I'll be seeing you all shortly (around June) and I can't wait! To ... read more

OK. So - there is already just too much to say. It has been a couple weeks here, and already it seems like months. Not sure if it’s the steady diet of rice or the exhaust fumes that have morphed my sense of time, but all I know is - this culture is gonna take a LONG time to adjust to. That’s not to say that it’s a bad thing, though… My first out of body experience occurred about a week ago when I was having a beer at a foreign (a.k.a. North American) restaurant with Faye. There was a Chinese man (no, that isn’t the shocking part) eating POUTINE… WITH CHOPSTICKS. Now I’ve seen everything. I’m pretty sure I stared enough to make him uncomfortable, but I couldn’t look away. I wanted to ask for ... read more

I finally had enough of South Korea, Josh and I took are things and headed for Taiwan. Taiwan is alot different than Korea in every aspect. The food in Taiwan is just horrendous, all of it is grease, however there are some really good vendors around. I really miss Korea food and find myself more often then not getting Korean food. Taiwanese people are so much different than Korean people. They remind me more of western culture, especially the girls. I find people here to be much more liberal than in Korea. Josh and I rolled into Taipei really not knowing shit and with no JOB. We checked into a hostel, which would unfortunatly become our home for the next two months. I met some really cool people there but def don't want to go back. ... read more

The first six months in Taipei seem to have traveled so fast. The troubles and trials of adapting to life seem so long ago now that it was hard to see why they happened at all. For me it was not an easy transistion into Taiwan life. We arrived in late September and the humidity was rife. Taipei is not on first glance a beutiful city and the hazey skyline offered little respite from the heat that seemed to press down so heavily on my smile. Layers of sweat, smoke and mosquitoes hung in the air like a bad tempered rainbow in our hostel and even the roaches seemed to worn out by the heat to do anything but sit and wait. Only the typhoons were strong enough to life the blanket of heat and came ... read more

It was Lunar New Year- January 28, 2006! I was off to Taiwan -Taipei on my own. I knew Holly from Markham ONtario was teaching near Taipei because I had been talking to her when I was thinking about teaching there. We had planned to meet at least one day. SHe booked me a cheap hotel. The QUEEN hotel and they spoke NO English! haha. Thami was staying at the Grand Hotel about 15 minutes across town. I tried to use the phone to call them both it took a long time to figure out!!!!!! GRRR. I met Thami for a late lunch at his nice hotel. Then we went touring around the city to see some temples. We were anxious to explore the night life as well but it was quite because of Chinese New ... read more
