My name is Stephanie and I'm off to travel South East Asia, India and Mainland China. After working 2 years teaching in Taiwan I'm starting this long awaited journey. I will be travelling around 5-6 months and will be heading back home to Canada, which I have no idea what to do once there..

Other visited countries in the past:
(2001: Jamaica, Mexico, United States)
(2004-2006: Taiwan)

**Change of plans: No longer heading home this June... have now opted to visit Australia and go get some more money to continue my travels for another while (maybe 3,6,8,12 months? I have no idea, we'll see where the earnings bring me)

*** Now back in Canada since July 2007, for a breather and some Family & Friends time.

Here are some of my adventures along the way...

Wow almost 4 years have passed since I've last lived in Canada. I can't explain how amazing this experience has been. I loved every minute of it and would do it all over again, exactly the same way (maybe I would extend though.. ;o) I've been back home now for almost 2 months. It is hard to be here & to re-adapt and at times depressing, but it's all worth it in the end when you get to see your family & friends. You come to realise that home is home, it is where you were born, where you lived most your life, this is where your roots are. But sometimes you realise that even though your roots are there, you've grown to be somewhere else, somewhere different. Where that is who knows.. Some day we'll ... read more

7 months after arriving in Perth I'm finally off to see new places. It's been one of the most memorable stays in one place for so long. I can't thank the people I've met here enough, especially the staff here at The Old Fire Station Backpackers. It seriously is sad to be leaving this place as for me now I consider my home away from home. Rich, Lynn, Gavin & I are leaving this Friday for a road trip to Melbourne, which will probably take us a few weeks to get to. We'll most likely stop along the way for some work doing harvesting of sorts. It's exciting to be on the road again soon. My backpacking trip came to a halt here, but I'm happy it did. I may be coming back at some point, ... read more

So sorry for the lack of entries for the past 2 months... Oops! Yes I am still alive and kicking. I guess quite a few things have gone on since my last entry, but I would'nt want to bore you with ramblings about them. I'll just give you the gist of it. I have done road trips since then. We (Jan, Rich, Maurice, Mel, Adam & Steph) headed down to Esperance a few weeks ago. Rented a caravan and did a camping trip. Left for 5 days and drove inland to get there. It really gives you the feel of middle of nowhere... nothing for miles and miles. Was the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen in my life! I can't even explain to you the views and the prestine blue waters and white beaches! Gorgeous!!! ... read more

So yup, I'm still here in Freo. Still working at the pasta place, still living at the hostel. Things are good, as Roy here would say "it's absolutely average". The itch to start moving again is coming back that's for sure. But still trying to save up some money to hit the road. I'm starting to look for other jobs now, one that'll pay more nad have more hours. And, also starting to look for a flat to live in, as it ends up being cheaper than living in the hostel, and help out with the funds as there's always something going on here. Well this month are the birthdays. We are 6 of us celebrating this week. Last night there was a big bday bash for Josh (one of the staff members) and Rob (who ... read more

Well after being in Freo (Fremantle) for 2 months and not seeing anything more than... Freo & Perth, I finally got outta here for a few days! A few weeks ago I was talking to a friend here, Steve(Kiwi) and mentionned he wanted to head down to Margaret River for a weekend. Well it tweaked my interest as I really wanted to see it and I really needed to get out of here for a while. So I went along with him. I finished work early on Friday and we headed out for a chill camping trip. Well, campground camping that is. We initially wanted to just set up tent anywhere near the beaches, but it's very hard to find a place as everything is under reconstruction/conservation land, so we opted for the campgrounds. We arrived ... read more

I'm sorry, I know it's been a long time, but just saving you from uneventful entries... So I'm still in Australia, still in Fremantle (near Perth) getting pretty cozy. The life here is very laidback and the hostel life and guests are quite the "family" since the majority of us here are longterm tenants. Our days consist of waking up (at some point) and run for the front desk to see if there are any odd jobs for the day in the area...mostly labouring, gardening, cleaning.. the jobs others don't really want to do, but whatever, it's cash-in-hand, so it's good. So far I have gardened on those jobs as the others usually want guys ... bah! Anyway, I've picked up some work finally. I actually clean the hostel on the weekends... what a job that ... read more

Well another Canada celebration, celebrated in another country. The past few days since I've arrived in Australia have been pretty laid back, sorta. Still not working, but getting on to it as of Monday. The hostel is a great place full of great people from around the globe. Many nights of World Cup watching and justifying our drinking... Today is Canada Day and we've so far had a great CND breaky with some pancakes and REAL mapple syrop, champane & OJ, bacon & eggs and the works. Mmm, mmm, mmm. After breakfast and a few too many glasses of bubbly, we decided to go hit the beach (even though it is cold here), but the sun was shinning hard today. Some guitar playing with fellow CNDs, and others wanting to celebrate it with us (I personally ... read more

Well I finally made it to Australia. I arrived yesterday afternoon on a rough landing. The weather was very bad and the pilot was unable to land the plane... after a few tries, we finally landed. Another white-knuckle ride. When going through customs I was honest and marked that I had some traditional Chinese medicine on me, so they brought me to quarantine, which is no big deal, but it turned out they were not interested in my Chinese medicine, but the drugs I supposedly had on me....???? They emptied my whole bag, passed the "drug test stick" on all my stuff, which supposedly came out strongly positive for narcotics... Funny, because I don't do drugs and I certainly didn't have any on me at anytime... After a few more tries to the test, still coming ... read more

So here I am killing time at the Singapore airport. Not hard to do really. 24 hour food, World Cup coverage everywhere, free Internet, the list goes on. This place rocks! So yeah, my flight leaves in about 7 hours for Australia. They kindly let me check in 9 hours before as they were closing their check-in desk. So now I'm wandering the airport to find the next coolest thing every 100 feet... ;o) Although the net is free I have a time limit, so I just wanted to say I made it here, and just taking advantage of free net time. Take care and more news on Australia soon. I'm gonna go find a corner to take in some Z's or watch the game... ... read more

I know I've been here before, but hadn't really spent much time here and was only on a day visa run from Taiwan, but now that I had a bit more time and someone to show me around... It's amazing. It's really a city that I would have no problems living in. I arrived yesterday noon and came to Nuning's & Shane's place here on Causeway Bay. They have a nice little place with a really nice view of Kowloon. It's a great location, as Shane would say: "It's 5 minutes away from everything you need". We went for lunch then I wandered the street with Nuning and chatted away at cafe's to catch up as it's been a year since we've last seen each other in Taiwan. Two great people. Finally bought a card reader ... read more
