I must admit though, I'm not so good at updating it, so be prepared to get frustrated. And for those that already are, yell at me just a little more and I promise to update more!

Wow. So, for lack of a better reason than being busy and unmotivated, I am not going to make any excuses this time for not writing as much. I'll just jump right into before my battery dies in this little cafe I'm in. Since the last entry looks like it was made in mid Septemeber, I'll have to relay these past few months via superseed. Honestly, its a little blurry for me, as every small side trip I've done just kind blends into a smoothie of curvy cliffhanger roads and neon signs. However, I have done my fair share of exploring, and for the few comrades that have stuck with me during my brief abscence...here's what you were missing. Over the Moon Festival Holiday in October a couple buddies of mine convinced their boss to let ... read more

So...I'll make this short and sweet, just like myself! I don't have the time, effort, will-power, or energy to continually update this thing. However, with that said I am attaching a nice little email I wrote to my parents in leiu of my inability to actually speak to them on my father's brithday. No pictures...again I'm sorry and I really don't have anything super new to report. As usual, I hope this finds each and every one of you enjoying your lives and constantly trying to make it a little bit better everyday! So, I'm sorry we haven't talked to each other in a while, especially as Dad's birthday has come and gone. Did you do something fun? I called you guys each night, but you were probably out on the town or something along those ... read more

So the past month or so has been nothing short of crazy. I went on some great trips and I've done some things here in Taipei I have never even thought about. Here it is in brief: Kaoraoke: So, the thing about Karaoke (KTV here) is that it isn't some wild crazy debacle that goes on after the night is winding down. This is more of a family type thing people tend to do on Sunday mornings before church. Sure, these huge 12 story buildings with 100's of private rooms stay open 24 hours a day, but a lot of the activity occurs on Saturday and Sunday mornings! I was lucky enough to be invited on Sunday afternoon a couple weeks ago. 2 other Taiwanese girls...only. So, the 3 of us go into our own private ... read more

Mother...this post is just for you on a very happy Mother's Day. Even as I sit and write this, I can see the lights on Taipei 101 read M-O-M with a heart for the O. Maybe I should do some reminiscing about travels in the past with my family...all which are some of the great memories I own...but unfortunately, there is just too much to write to do that now. I am finally making some great friends here. And fortunately, they come in the form of very local Taiwanese people that are incredibly welcoming and friendly. One of the coteachers that I work this, Lee Jia Feng, invited me to go on a white water rafting trip with her last weekend. She actually assumed I would say no, because the group included 16 other Taiwanese locals, ... read more

So, a funny thing happened to me last Thursday. While I was preparing for a demonstration in front of all the students' parents, I was summoned by a fellow Chinese teacher to quickly run up to the 6th floor. There, I was instructed to hide as our small little school was getting RAIDED by the Taiwanese government. The official law prohibits foreigners from teaching English to Kindergarten-aged children. They believe that children should have the benefits of learning Chinese first before they start learning English. So...this law has been around for a while, and is almost never enforced. Today there are roughly 8000 foreigners teaching Kindergarteners English! The law is very outdated, and the Taiwanese government is slowly starting to make it easier for foreigners to teach kindergarters. But...anyway, the way my school gets around this ... read more

A momentous week has come and gone and it was fantastic. First off, I am now a legitimate alien working here in Taiwan, as my work visa was stamped and my Alien Resident Card (ARC) was given to me! I can now stop living in fear. I also passed my "trial" period at work and was not fired, amazingly enough. This now entitles me to get paid a normal salary, and get a monthly paycheck like everyone else. I also get to pay taxes like everyone else, but I'll take it. Next week is "demonstration week" that lets the student's parents come in and observe all my perfectly run classes. It does put some added pressure on me, but as you all know, I live for such a thing...actually, I am quite nervous as the other ... read more

For 1 hour and 37 minutes, she was the love of my life and my best friend. We ran two errands together before she left without even saying goodbye. We became so close so fast, and then the heartbreak began when she left. I couldn’t speak to anyone. I could barely eat. Even now, a week after she disappered, I still quietly cry myself to sleep. I was simply head-over-heals in love! We all know that feeling that I’m talking about. Utter and tragic heartbreak…that day… that infamous day. That day that my bike was stolen from under my nose…my new bike that I bought last Saturady…she was my love, my life, and the fire in my soul… and I’m completely lost without her. Dramatics aside, I really did get my new bike stolen last Saturday. ... read more

Central Park in Taipei

Finally! That sums up quite a lot for me right now. I finally have a place to call home and a fantastic teaching job. I finally updated this crazy blog! I finally got that fish tank I've always wanted. And yes, I can finally have some kind of rountine that I've been longing for over the past 6 months. I am currently writing this from my new apartment, a "New York style" studio that is no bigger than one of those mid-size Hummers. However small, it makes up in location. I have a mammoth-sized window overlooking Daan Park (google this), similar to Central Park in New York. I live on the 3rd floor, so I can see all the happenings of people walking their dogs, doing their yoga and tai-chi, and watching the birds fish in ... read more

Forgive me for my lack of eloquence I have tried so hard to pursue in my earlier blogs. The overwhelming anxiety of a hemispherical move can take its toll sometimes. Many things have changed, and I am sure each and every one of you are as anxious as I am to finally get the story. I arrived into Taipei, Taiwan on January 28th, two days after my 24th birthday. Actually, my plans took me to an unknown industrial city 30km outside of Taipei called Tao Yuan. Little did I know at the time, but this city was the bane of my existence for the 3 ensuing days. Shannon and I had made arrangements with a school called ESL4Asia.com. I should have known something wasn’t quite right with the play on words with the 4 and the ... read more

I seem to start every one of these things with some kind of apology for not writing. However, things are different now. I am a new man. A stronger man. One that is too self-centered and wrapped up with his own world to apologize. So if you want one...tough. As each and everyone of you know, being overseas is quite demanding, I don't think I need to apologize about not writing because it only means that I'm not sitting in my crumby little apartment not doing anything. And I haven't. Here is a rundown of what my holiday consisted of. 1. Vienna: Right before I left...with the girls. It was amazing. I thought it was more beautiful than Prague, but then again I saw the sun all day long and did all the touristy stuff instead ... read more
