Hola people, thought it about time to update.I now know how Marty Mcfly felt when he stepped out of the dolorian,Ive lost a complete day and its messing with my body clock big time.Landed at about seven in the morning, although i did think the pilot was gonna come up short and ditch it in the south china sea.I could actually see the faces of the fishermen as we flew over them. This place is absolutly amazing,i love it.Its non stop.So with nowhere to stay and my belly growling i caught the train to Kowloon, where i wanted to stay. After asking the driver for a decent but cheap hotel i settled on one right on Victoria harbour, the view from my room is amazing. Spent the first day just having a wander around, getting the star ferry across the harbour and the ... read more

... read more

I have arrived yesterday and first of all sleeped thru the day as i didn'get much sleep on the plane. Finding a hostel or guesthouse wasn't a problem, you just walk along Nathan Road and when you come close to Mody Rd little chinese people start offering you a place to sleep. In the end I stayed at the Garden Hostel, in the Mirror Mansion 58-62 Nathan Rd on the third floor. Hostels in Honkong arn't a beauty but they are a good option for the small wallet.... read more

I have finally gotten my pictures from Hong Kong. I thought Hong Kong was great, so big and alot cleaner than dirty ass Taipei. I got there very late on Saturday night so really didn't have time to do much. However I did walk around and take a few pictures of my surroundings. The place was so expensive it was ridiculous, everything was more expensive than Taipei. I stayed in a really crappy hotel room for about 45 USD, it was worth maybe 8USD. Anyway on Sunday I got up relatively early and made my way over to the harbor. The view is amazing, especially at night, to bad none of the pictures I had of it turned out. I went to the art museum which was less than stellar, the contemporary art selection was HAIR. ... read more

Since the last time I have posted to my blog, so much has happened. I took a two-week trip to China. I’ve moved on to the data analysis stage of my dissertation. I’m making preparations for my trip home in December, and I’m helping teach three courses this fall at the University of Hong Kong. But, the purpose of this blog entry is to share some pictures and memories from a night on the town in Hong Kong that I had this week with my friend Piers. I’ve written about Piers several times in this blog. We will be presenting a paper together in November at the 12th Annual International Mobility Conference sponsored by the Hong Kong Society for the Blind. Piers and I swap stories and laugh a lot together. His English is very good, ... read more

Oh my gosh, it is SO muggy here. I tried to prepare myself but wow! Only just found an internet cafe and don't think i can dowload any pictures yet so will try to do that over the next couple of days. Have just visited the Avenue of Stars - which is quite cool. I have a picture of Jet Li's, tried to get one of Jacki Chan's but was being bothered by someone - not sure what about, I was trying not to listen. I saw the light show last night. It was amazing. I can't believe they do it every night. I have taken some pictures but they haven't turned out very well. I tried to book a harbour tour but unfortunately there were no places until Saturday and I leave on Friday. Met ... read more

This is the first weekend of school and I've just moved in. The campus scenery is amazing and very beautiful. Check out the pics in the Hēung Góng Fō Geih Daaih Hohk entry. The scenery pics shown below are from the ride to the nearest MTR station. MTR is similar to the subway system in New York. The Hong Kong landscape is made up of many hills and mountains, so there is always good scenery to look at. Wilson and I took the 91, which is a Double Decker bus route to Choi Hung. The prices for transporation are very cheap. The buses from school are priced around $5-8 HK, which is roughly around $1 US. From the pictures you can see that I'm already turning really fobby (fresh off the boat like) in my first ... read more

The taxi ride?? PHEW!!!! We had booked the taxi bus for 8am, at 8.15 Andy asks when it's coming the response to this was 'later'. Andy: 'when later?', 'later'. Luckily, for them, it turned up a few minutes later and we still had half a bus to pick up. We had heard about bad drivers throughout Asia and how they put their faith in Buddha, but this ride took the micky! The driver even went to the shop, but to disguise this he shouts 'airport', but there was obviously no one waiting and we were already late! So after a hair raising drive through the hectic streets of Bangkok (melissa was saying her prayers) we arrived safe and sound at the airport, still shaking, for our penultimate flight to Hong Kong. The flight took just under ... read more

Hong Kong has been fantastic. A real city. Before here I though Manchester and even Sheffield was a big, buzzing and happening city, but to this place not even London can compare. Before we got here we first had to make our way from Vietnam. You would think that a simple flight from the Vietnamese capital Hanoi to Hong Kong would be easily made, after all it’s only a width of an index finger distance on a map. It ended up more inexpensive to fly via Bangkok from Hanoi, then from Bangkok to Macau, then from Macau by ferry to Hong Kong. It was also a lot more time efficient than hopping on a train or coach through china to get here. So it was decided, we would use the power and cheapness of air Asia, ... read more
