Greetings, Sorry for the lack of photos on this entry. I snapped this hazy shot on my first morning in HongKong. I was staying in a pretty swank hotel so especially in the evenings there were million dollar views to be had. Spent the first days shopping with the fam and doing some sightseeing. We checked out the views from "The Peak" on HongKong Island preceeded by an extreemly steep tram ride to the peak tower. We joked that we'd probably arrive only to find a mall at the top as the shopping malls and arcades in HongKong extend in a never ending maze in the main tourist districts. Hello all! I guess this counts as my very first proper travel blog, as I am now officially TRAVELLING! . The good news is, I have had a totally fabulous time in Hong Kong, my first stop. I have been told by a number of people not to go on and on and on about how wonderful everything is because it makes them sick, so I will try not to be TOO glowing. However, I have to be honest - it really has been fantastic so far. Hong Kong is a brilliant city. Everyone should come here. I could honestly wax lyrical about it for hours. Ein Oktoberfest, das konnten sich unser Bayer und die Oesterreicher nicht entgehen lassen. Also traf man sich abends im Marco Polo Hotel beim Oktoberfest, das eigentlich 'German Bierfest' heisst. Kaum auf der richtigen Etage angelangt, stellte ich erstmal fest, dass man sich wirklich um eine reale Nachahmung der Wiesn in Muenchen bemuehte. Der Eintritt ins Festzelt, dem Sitzbereich kostete schon gleich erstmal 85HK$, das Essen war zwar wirklich bayerisch, aber mit 80 - 120 HK$ auch nicht gerade umsonst, eben echte deutsche Lokalpreise. Das Bier sollte auch gleich mal 5,50EUR (55HK$) kosten, es war allerdings bereits eins im Eintritt enthalten. Es gab sogar neben dem typischen Loewenbraeu gutes, heimatliches Becks. Arrived in Hong Kong, which despite it being nighttime was as bright as daytime due to all the neon lights. Hong Kong was great, very clean city, fab weather and not too hot. Stayed in the Lee Garden Guest House in Kowloon, which was very central and clean but the size of a shoe box! Had one small window, which if you really craned your neck would just about let you see a small patch of blue sky due to the buildings all around us. On our first day we took the Star ferry (for about 20p) over to Central on Hong Kong island and then caught another ferry onto Lantau island. Survived the train ride. Now in Hong Kong. This is a serious shopping town. I have never seen so much designer stuff before. Seen at least 4 Prada stores and we have only walked around a few blocks. Expensive though compared with the rest of China. Watched the 'symphony of lights' where neon on buildings surrounding the harbour flashes in time with crappy music. Looked like a 15yo Chinese geek made it (probably did). Been to the gold fish and flower markets. Got dragged uo Victoria peak on the Peak tram - it broke down the next day??. Caught the star ferry a few times. Today we went to Lantau Island which is Hong Kongs version of Stradbroke. It was lovely to be out of the crowds and noise.
