We stayed only one night in Gaungzhou, (Main land China), as there wasn't a lot going on! We had a walk around Shamain Island where we were staying & brought our tickets to get to Hong Kong for the following day. By 4pm we were bored so decided to purchase some light refreshments, (in the form of vodka), and go & sit in the sun in the local park & watch people sing & practice Thai Chi. In the evening we went to a nice restaurant, unfortunately we didn't get exactly what we ordered but even so we tried Goose, (which was nice.) Upon leaving we spotted a bar & on investigating the drinks list I realised they sold white wine, even better, when it arrived it was cold, (a bit unusual for China), so decided ... read more

Well we've come to the end of our adventure and what a place to finish it in. Hong Kong is an amazing city - very vibrant and so easy to get used to. In fact, we wish we could stay longer. We've had a great time exploring and needless to say shopping!! Highlights have been: being on the 20th floor and still looking UP at buildings from our hotel window, eating at some great street restaurants whilst maintaining our balance on wobbly plastic stools, looking DOWN at Hong Kong from Victoria peak, being taken to a little flat on the 10th floor by a street vendor to check out their stash of replica designer bags and haggling with many more street vendors to get a bargain - we even resorted to a joint 'go on please ... read more

Arrived in at our hostel about 3pm on Wednesday feeling awful. I had been sick before we left Guanghouz and had a strange sensation of being on a boat (like the whole ground was moving), so my first day was spent in bed. Erica went out for tea and brought me back something to settle my stomach and some food for when i was feeling better, bless her. About 8pm i managed to eat and was on the mend! On Thursday i was ready to make up for the day i had lost. We caught the ferry across to Hong Kong Island and headed straight for Victoria Peak. I had read alot about it and i was not disapointed, the view from up there was amazing. Next we headed to the zoological and botanical gardens, they ... read more

Thanks to the much sought after cash injection, I was relatively confident that I could survive for five days in Hong Kong and a day in Brisbane before meeting up with Matt to collect my cash cards. This I acheived, but by the narrowest of margins. I hadn't bothered to read up on Hong Kong as I was to spend so little time in the city, therefore I was surprised when upon disembarking from the airport bus outside ChungKing Mansions I was accosted Indian style by hostel touts and I quickly had to revert to aggressive mode to deal with their unwanted attentions. I was not in the least shocked to notice that the touts were all Indians, as were the "copy watch?", "suit sir?" and "hashish?" mob that congregate in the lobby of the delightful ... read more

After finally getting off of the plane (Quantas rules by the way. Constantly giving food out!) I headed for my hostel in down town Kowloon. I meet a spanish chick on my bus who is also staying at my hostel so i at least have company for the next few days. Upon arrival, i am fairly pleased with my room. However after trying to get a quick power-nap i quickly realise that my bed is right next to two toilets. Fine i thought at least i have quick access. But after the owner of the place took the noisiest piss i've ever heard, i had to move to a different room. Honestly it sounded like a camel was pissing on my ear! I leave this hostel to find a new room which is located on the ... read more

Hello All, This is the 2nd attempt at writing this! I pushed the wrong button and everything disappeared! We are in Hong Kong! The flight was hell for me but P thought it was better than he had expected. It was worse because of the 5 or so panic attacks that I had on the way here! On our first day we fought our way through the manic crowds on Nathan Rd. to find our hotel. The YMCA is really good and yes mum they do provide towels! We then had a nap... for 4 hours. We needed it though and had a lot more energy. We then made our way down to Victoria Harbour front to see all the lights from Hong Kong Island. We weren't sure whether to say it was beautiful- not sure ... read more

... read more

Hello! Well got back from Hong Kong last Wednesday. No-one told me it was rainy season!!! But all was wellJ When I first arrived, I had a few hours to wonder around nearby the. I discovered a $10 store (that's less than AUD$2!), and it's so much better. Almost like Reject Shop or Go-Lo, but still much better. There was so much baking stuff, and Sanrio things. Walked to Tsuen Wan (I love attempting to say the words hehehe) MTR station and rode it to Admiralty to change to Causeway Bay. Everything is so straight forward, easy to follow. All the directions are also translated into English, even the speaker on the MTR. I'm sure if I rode it often I would also be able to memorize all the stops along the way in their language ... read more

Greetings, Sorry for the lack of photos on this entry. I snapped this hazy shot on my first morning in HongKong. I was staying in a pretty swank hotel so especially in the evenings there were million dollar views to be had. Spent the first days shopping with the fam and doing some sightseeing. We checked out the views from "The Peak" on HongKong Island preceeded by an extreemly steep tram ride to the peak tower. We joked that we'd probably arrive only to find a mall at the top as the shopping malls and arcades in HongKong extend in a never ending maze in the main tourist districts. So, we arrived into yes a 7 story mall in which you had to wind your way through to get to the top. Definitely overwhelming sensations as ... read more
