Hi everyone!!! We r still in Kowloon, now that we have done all the big tourist attractions we r spending time exploring the local markets. Zac gets quite excited at the prospect of haggling over the price of stuff! Louise left this morning for Tiland, she'll be missed as she was a good tourguide!!! We ony got lost once today, but have a rough guide book which has become our bible. Went to the jade market yesterday & brought some bits 4 family etc. Today i dragged zac round the ladies market & brought a hard cover 4 my ipod as can't get one back home. zac brought a few bits too, but kept getting distracted by the dirty underwear (for a reserved people the chinese like their porn!!!!). zac's asleep at the mo, but we ... read more

Well, after months of preparation, stress, planning and more planning, we finally set off on our long-awaited (and long!) honeymoon on October 25th. After some emotional (and alcoholic) goodbyes over the previous few weeks, we set off for Hong Kong. After a smooth overnight flight, we landed the following morning and transferred to our hotel in Kowloon. The Eaton was a lovely hotel to start our trip - smart and elegant, close to everything but slightly removed from the action, and overall a perfect base from which to explore - good work Finbarr! Hong Kong itself turned out to be a fascinating introduction to the Far East and a good mix of east and west. There aren't an overwhelming number of specific sights, which means that you can enjoy wandering around and taking everything in without ... read more

Just a quick one today peeps as we've only been in HK for 2 days and thats been long enough. We caught our flight from Guilin (no upgrade to 1st class this time though) and arrived in Shenzen an hour later. What a chuffing palavor the border crossing is! We caught a cab to the boarder where we got our passports stamped for exit then realized that we need some HK dollors to pay for the bus.....opps! Now you would think that there would be cash points the HK side but oh no and there is no way of getting back through if it hadn't been for a friendly little man who swopped our Chinese Yuan for some HK dollor we would still of been stood there like a couple of prats now. We then got ... read more

Hi Everybody! We got here on Tuesday, meet up with Zac's mate Louise and found our dodgy hostel! The traveling went ok but had jet lag for about 2 days! Have done loads & seen loads. Hong Kong is amazing, really indiscriable, a case of you have to see it to believe it. Due to this crap pc am unable to load any pics at this moment in time. Today we went to see the Big Budda and had a scary ride on the cable cars back down the mountain, but no where near as scary as the bus ride up it!!!! It was a really enlightening and peaceful experience, although the 240 steps to reach it were a bit knackering!!!!! Have just got back from the Night Market and are getting ready to go out ... read more

We arrived in Hong Kong after a lovely bus journey, which even stopped half way at a nice hotel for a full Chinese meal, probably our most authentic meal as we sat at a table with the other passengers all of whom were Chinese. Not bad for 13euro! On arrival in the city we got the subway to Nathan Road where we had booked a hostel in Mirador Mansions. We managed to locate our hostel which was one of many situated in the building. We were then informed that they didn't have any room for us, despite the fact we had a booking. So they offered us a private double bed room instead of the dorm room we booked, too tired to argue we agreed. We were then led by a Chinese girl back down to ... read more

So...I'm like a giant here. I'm just this huge giant freak person. It's kind of funny. Except when I try to buy clothes and realize I'm not 100 lbs and it becomes somewhat challenging. The clothes in Hong Kong are not very familiar with asses. They're like "Uh..what are you?" and my ass is like "I'm an ass. Don't you recognize me?" and they're like "We don't have asses in Hong Kong". It's all very awkward. My ass gets all offended and the clothes, it's not really their fault, they just don't know what to do. But somehow I've still managed to walk away with a couple bags of new clothes and hopefully more after our shopping excursion today. It's amazing how I can walk for hours and hours while shopping and not be tired but ... read more

There are a serious amount of Chinese people here. I mean, there's ALOT. They are everywhere, just hangin out, minding their business. I'm constantly pushing through them or rushing past them. I still have to work on my push. I get really excited when I see white people. I feel like we should hang out, or be friends, or date casually or something. Sometimes I try to get close enough to hear them talking and see what kind of accent they have. I. am. A. Loser. But seriously I think the reason they put me at ease is because I know there is someone else out there who is maybe not so sure of their surroundings either. Today I finally earned enough gold stars to be granted the right to go out BY MYSELF. It was ... read more

Before I say anything...I thought I would just point out that this message is pretty much coming to you from the future....that's right, 15 hours ahead. Isn't that creepy?! I know what's going to happen before you do! Let me tell you, the future is beautiful. Everybody speaks Cantonese in the future, no really, it's wierd. The earth is alot more polluted and people communicate only through cell phones. Or "mobiles" or whatever they want to call them now. Yep, the future is pretty crazy. So I arrived in one piece, a little nauseaus but alive. Remind me to never take another 14-hour flight in my life because that was painful. Hong Kong is so bad-ass. It's like a real-life Gotham city with ridiculously tall buildings everywhere and this winding maze of roads and overpasses and ... read more

Hi Everybody! I believe that I have died and gone to heaven with Hong Kong. Most people know how much I like to shop! If I stayed here for a year, I couldn't go in all of the shops in this town. I tried to make a start on them today. We are staying in Kowloon in a great location! Walt and I had read about this hotel in our Military Space A book and realized that we were elgible to stay in it. It is rather old but is clean and well run. The Peninsula Hotel is one block down and the Sheraton is across the street. I can walk to the harbor dock, several museums, and many shops. Tomorrow, we hope to ride across the harbor on the Star Ferry, ride the tram up ... read more
