Hi All, Time for some warm weather. We took the bullet train down to Guangzhou and then the commuter train to Zhuhai. We stayed in the Jingjiang Inn on Fenghuang street which has a great location close to the beach, parks, shops and restaurants. We had one day of lovely sunshine and I even managed to get sunburnt on my neck and arms. Zhuhai is a very new city, much like the other cities in the Pearl River Delta, with it being a fishing village only 30 years ago. It's a very spacious city, very different to other Chinese cities, with palm tree lined streets and lovely parks full of colourful flowers and with very few people. We went up to the top of Jinshan park in the chairlift for wonderful views of the city and ... read more

Hey Guys ! After beeing busy for the last month I decided it was time for another update on whats going in. I’ve been in China for more than 3 month already and a daily routine has start to set in. Last week I successfully passed all my Chinese mid-term-tests in University and I’m currently preparing on my next test on December 6th. This test will be an official test called HSK test which I can later use for job applications etc. The Hsk tests are split up in 6 levels, of which I will be tested in the 3rd. Besides studying for my Mid-term-exams I also took some free time and went on further adventuring Zhuhai. During normal School days I normally spend my free time either studying with my friend Dima ( He’s from ... read more

你好 Ni Hao ! Hey Guys ! So its been more than a month now that I have lived in Zhuhai and its time for a little update with what is going on in my life right now. The first 3 weeks of my stay so far where really interesting and I think a good start for me to adjust to the Chinese culture and food. While Jeff the Dad was working in Beijing, Ingrid took me to different places here in Guangdong ( The Province I live in ). We went to an Ocean Theme Park, to a small replica of the summer palace from Beijing, and we stayed for 2 nights at a Hotel on a nearby Mountain where we went wild water rafting. Besides all of this we also went to the nearby ... read more

After my flight was delayed again, ( I’ve been pretty lucky so far ;) ) I arrived at the Airport of Zhuhai at 8pm. There, my Hostmother “Ingrid” picked me up and we drove back to the apartment. The Kids where still up and I could meet them. As you will see in the pictures they are twins. One is called Christine and the other one Crystal. After a nice and friendly welcoming Dinner, I discovered that my Bed was in fact hard as stone. It took me days to finally adjust to the Bed. Over the next days we went on different Trips. Zhuhai is famous for its Statue of a Fisher girl, so I was quit eager to see her. We went to the Lovers Road, which is a road next to the see, ... read more

After 20 hours in a plane and many more at the Airports, I finally arrived at the Trainings-house in Beijing at 2am. Besides getting to know many other Au-Pairs, I was also trained in simple Housework tasks and how to interact and teach Chinese children. So far my Stay has been really nice and relaxing. I live in a gated Community with about 30 Skyscrapers. During my stay there were many different Au-Pairs in the Trainings house. While most of them are new and from Germany, there were also one from Brazil and one from Colombia who were more experience and could teach me a thing or two. Besides the Au-Pairs is also the Family of the Trainer consisting of her Husband, Grandmother and her 5 year old girl, staying in the Apartment. The typical Lunch ... read more

Another week has gone by, it turns out that those bites on my legs were not actually regular bug bites but rather bites from bedbugs. Bedbug bites generally do not react the way that they did on me, but as it turns out, I am actually allergic to bedbugs. My language partner took me to the clinic on campus to get my bites checked out which is when I found out about my allergy, the doctor gave me some cream to calm down the allergy, but he said if it didn't work by the morning that I would need to go to the hospital in the city instead of just the clinic. Luckily after moving to two different rooms, freezing my clothes and spraying my luggage with pesticides I seem to have gotten rid of all ... read more

So how do I summarize my first week back in China. So much has happened in such a short amount of time, I should really be writing it down everyday but who has the time for that? Today is Sunday night, classes will start up again tomorrow after a weekend of academic trips. Last week of classes was interesting, I am sitting in on both the Atlantic Canadian Studies class and Dr. Perrins class on Chinese history. The Atlantic Canadian studies class in the morning is only for the Chinese students who will be heading to Canada in the fall to take classes as part of a 2+2 program, two years in China and two years abroad, in this case in Canada. During the week the students tend to be pretty tired after classes, especially on ... read more

Well I am back online! The Great Firewall of China has been creating a number of problems for me as far as blogging is concerned, therefore I will be using this blog address for the remainder of my time in China and I will be switching back to my other blog upon my return to Canada. It has been almost 48 hours now since I landed in China and a lot has happened in that short amount of time. The flight was, well, long is the best way to describe it. Amnah and myself were quite lucky to have an empty seat between us for the longest part of the flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong and our transfers went smoothly, unlike the flight that Dr. Perrins and two students from Acadia were on, which was ... read more

I was so busy the last weeks – unbelievable… So I am sorry to keep you waiting guys! I will keep it short this time though! I ate Jujube for the first time – I cannot really say what it is, though. Some kind of date I would guess, but somewhat different. Because I actually hate dates but I like to eat Jujube ;) You have free Wi-Fi everywhere here…but it is actually called “GovWiFi” …now, what does that mean? Is it from the government?oO and if so will they watch my every move when I use it? Haha I found myself in a really dangerous, life threatening situation – a HUUUUGE cockroach was attacking me in the bathroom! I only had 2 choices run or shower first. Well I choose the later one (because I ... read more
