I woke up this morning and made my coffee while some still slept and some were rousing. I took a couple of blueberry muffins and my coffee and stepped outside. You could not see Otter Lake because it was blanketed in fog. Pretty. I worked up a fire in the fire pit though it was kind of hard because everything was damp with dew. I managed to make one while I could feel a seasoned couple watching me from a couple sites over thinking this city girl can't make a fire. I showed them. By the time, I got the fire started, I could see the lake. By the time, the first child came out, it was hiding again. Weird. Elizabeth came out and wanted to fish. So, she and I grabbed our poles and headed to the lake. It was so quiet and pretty. We snuck past all the tents with late risers. It really wasn't late but in my opinion, after sunrise in a tent is a late riser.
We fished off the shore for awhile. Ben and Matthew came down too. We met a little boy named Jesse who lives in Minnesota. We didn't catch any
fish but it was fun. We made our way back to camp. Tenters were rising and starting their breakfast. I got out the bacon and pancake mix with fresh blueberries and cooked it up on the fire. I like cooking over the fire. After breakfast, the boys ran off to the Gaga pit while Elizabeth, Paul and I went exploring. Apparently, there is #somethingtosee in the woods by our site according to our camping neighbors. They made it sound easy so we ventured in. Well, there is no path whatsoever. I'm thinking poison ivy, bugs, snakes as we were hiking and breaking through our own path to #whotheheckknowswhere. I am adventurous but not at the expense of a hospital trip. Another thought I had as I passed through this uncharted foliage and a near miss spider in its web not expecting his lair to be a pass through (we abliged), was the thought about being "Naked and Afraid" and barefoot like the tv show. NO, NO, NO. I couldn't even do it 30 feet from civilization. NO! Needless to say, we did not find this #whoknowswhat. We trekked our way through tall reeds along the lake (which did not make
me feel any better) back to camp. Paul and Elizabeth had their share of wilderness too.
Today is Pictured Rocks day. We are about 10 minutes to downtown Munising and another 20 to Pictured rocks. We unplugged and set out for another adventure. We stopped along the way to check out Miners Castle rock formation. Really pretty overlook. Then to Munising Falls. Very pretty hike and falls. We heard from a few people to go to Miners beach. Beautiful beach with white sands overlooking Lake Superior and Pictured Rocks. Gorgeous. The kids swam for a little bit. Then we had a kayak tour scheduled.
Macy was our guide. We ended up with a private tour and it was great. Macy was so sweet and friendly. We kayaked to the caves along the shore. Super cool. We got so lucky today because the weather was amazing. 82 and sunny. Lake Superior was so calm. The water was crystal clear. We couldn't have asked for a better day. When we got back to our car (rig) around 6:30, the kids wanted to go back to the beach so we did. We decided to have a late dinner. Fly by the seat of
our pants. I got part of the way in. It wan't too cold. The kids and Paul swam around. We got back to camp around 8:30. I whipped up some of Gigi's spaghetti sauce and noodles. Boy that hit the spot. We ate it by the fire. Another great day.
Tomorrow, we pack up and head to Platte River Campground. We have a non electric site. How bad can it be? WTF...what's the Flipside? A tent! Sleeping on the ground. It'll be ok. Check back tomorrow. We'll be home soon.
