Bangkok Party Boat Bangkok Party Boat Bangkok Party Boat

Every night we watched a dozen of these party boats cruise down the river from our hotel room. This is a nightly ritua, not uncommon in a high energy, major metropolitan tourist destination point. They are all decked out in a variety of colours, and most feature music. dining and dancing. Lovely scenery to be roling by.
News alert! Machines are controlling our lives! Just a few days ago our lives depended on our furnaces, and today we are dependent on air conditioning! It was minus forty Celcius with the wind chill factor when we left our home in Regina Canada earlier this week. We are now in Bangkok, Thailand, experiencing plus thirty! Life is difficult indeed 😊

And about that jet lag . . . for the first time ever, we took a midnight flight from Vancouver to Bangkok. After a brief meal served at the start of the flight, the lights went out and the entire population on the plane, it seemed, went to sleep, including us. We arrived the next day at noon, and managed to stay awake until the evening. After a mere two days, we seem to be over jet lag, without really having experienced a serious bout, compared to previous years. Point to note for future flight bookings, as this has been a thumbs up experience.

Bangkok has been primarily a stopover to get charged up for the real adventure, which begins at 4 a.m. tomorrow, when we will be heading to southern Thailand, on a travel route which will include air, land, and ferry transport, eventually arriving on the island of Ko Phangyan. However, Southern Thailand has in the past ten days been experiencing some of the heaviest rainfall in over two decades, several lives have been lost, and many are homeless, so we were uncertain that we would even be able to continue with our travel plans to this area until yesterday, when monsoon rains on Ko Phangyan subsided enough, and the original cancelled flight to the south was rerouted to another airport. It remains to be seen what we shall encounter upon arrival, but we are advised it is safe to travel there, and our presence shall hopefully not hinder the situation.

And so we are resting, enjoying some down time by the pool and a couple of evenings watching the beautiful sunset dining and party boats float by our hotel. It has been a great way to build up strength and resilience for the long challenging day of travel ahead of us.

Travel is not always easy, but this is all part of the package, and as long as we are able to, we shall take it on.

How wonderful those boats look! Nice to know the extra $ was worth it. Excellent that you are able to sleep through the flight!
