…and another museum. This time it was the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. The museum was housed in what used to be the Colorado Springs courthouse. It featured two men who moved to the area and struck it rich in gold mining. From there they branched out into other entrepreneurial endeavors. Other exhibits in the museum included the city’s history as a destination for people with tuberculosis, the history of the Pikes Peak region, and the Waldo Canyon fire in 2012.
Donelle was sure they had a restored TB hut, but we couldn’t find it. On our way out she made a comment to the woman at the front desk. The woman said they still had the hut, but its exhibit was being remodeled and therefore closed to the public. At the same time, a gentleman in a suit with a museum badge walked by. He asked if we had a few extra minutes. We weren’t in a hurry. He took us to the closed exhibit. Inside was a bare floor and just the hut. You could see where it had been moved from its original placement. Because of the few pieces of construction equipment and debris and the fact that
we were receiving special treatment, we didn’t go over to the hut for a closer look. Instead we viewed it from just inside the door. It’s scheduled to reopen mid-December.
For lunch we went to Chick-fil-A…Mike wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I’d already nixed the suggestion once, I didn’t have the heart to do it again so we went…meh. My chicken salad sandwich could have used more chicken salad. It was made the way Mike makes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich—just enough of each to say it was on the bread. His sandwiches are more like essence of peanut butter and jelly.
We went our separate ways when we arrived back at their house so I could spend some quality time with the laptop. We made plans to get together for dinner at a favorite restaurant of theirs. I just have to say…Washington needs to bring the Texas Roadhouse chain to the state. Oh my goodness was the food yummy! The steak was deliciously seasoned and tender…even mine which Mike usually likes to refer to as shoe leather. The house side salad was more than chunks of lettuce and croutons and their endless
fresh-…really fresh-baked dinner rolls are light and fluffy and served with cinnamon butter…YUM! We asked for another order of them to go so we could have them with our leftovers tomorrow.
