After swimming with wild dolphins several times with Rockingham Dolphins, I wondered if the experience at Discovery Cove could possibly compare. It doesn't - it's a completely different experience but just as amazing. Just walking in to this beautifully serene park is like arriving on a tropical island. The scenery is lush and green, birds are chirping and Carribean music is playing in the background. It's a far cry from the hustle and bustle of the big thrill parks.

After checking in and receiving our time slot for our dolphin interaction, we headed straight to the restaurant for breakfast. Breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks are all inclusive at the park so we started off with a good hearty breakfast (Bruce and the girls were astonished by the amount I had on my plates).

The dolphin interaction started off with an introduction to Maria, a 7 year old female who was very friendly and chilled. She swam by our group of 9 to let us all stroke her back. She didn't feel like any of us expected, her trainer likened the feel to a peeled hard boiled egg. After showing off for a while, waving and rolling on to her back it was time for her to swim to the deeper water and tow us back to the shallow with her dorsal fin. Izzy volunteered herself for the first ride. She was beside herself with excitement as she swam out with Lily to meet the dolphin in the middle of the lake. It was smiles all round as each of us took our turn. It was such a fantastic experience which was enhanced by our personal kisses and cuddles we got to have with beautiful Maria afterwards. As she flipped on to her back to allow us to tickle her tummy, she decided that would be the perfect moment to pee! Lily was horrified but maybe not quite as horrified as she was at the amount of snot that came out of Izzy's nose a little later - it was like one of those magic tricks with the coloured handkerchiefs that keeps going and going and going......

The rest of the day was spent snorkeling in the reef and floating in the Tropical River. Lily found a nice spot on a hammock for a little sun worshipping and I finished off the day with a piƱa colada or two!

A definite highlight of our holiday so far ?? (The dolphins, not the pina colada)
