I don't usually take pictures at zoos, but I had to for Ashley, my roommate at Geneseo who looooves them. Here you go Ash!
So.. today, we woke up and a huge group of 15 of us decided to go to the zoo.. not something I'd do if I were only here for a week, but since I'm here for 3 more months, why not? Plus they had a student discount 😊 it was $5.00USD to get it in.. Not too bad! So I thought before I went, how could a Czech zoo be different from and American zoo? Well I have some answers... First, if you are Czech, bringing your dog to the zoo is the cool thing to do... big or small, adorable or ferocious, bringing your dog is a must. I wish this was not the case because I witnessed three dog fights, one was a three way fight between a german shepherd, a lab, and a yorkshire terrier. The terrier surprisingly held its own.. Second, Czechs like to make the zoo seem as natural as possible, meaning they like to have low standing fences. This works for most animals, except for animals that can fly- like bats. We were walking through the "African jungle" and we were like "hey look, it looks like there is no glass." To our horror, this

was no illusion- there was no glass. One of the bats flew into my friend's hair. Third, food is not ridiculously overpriced like in America which we all enjoyed. The beer was so cheap, some of the kids were saying they wanted to pregame at the zoo.. haha 😊 Overall, the zoo was fun and actually quite different than the US.. We all left in shifts, but my group left the latest, which was a mistake because when we got to the tram station, the 22 (the tram to our dorm) was completely full because there was a Slipknot concert. So, we had to walk! We were going to follow the tram, but the genius boys said that the tram was not direct enough and they knew a shorter way.. This led to an unexpected tour of the outskirts of Prague.. We finally found our way, but when we got back we were exhausted and were in for the night.. When we got back, we found out that Zuzana, the dorm mother met the Dali Lama on her birthday the previous day! This lady has to be famous!

It's so different isn't it? Not in a bad or a good way...just different. And get used to dogs on the tram...in restaurants...in stores. Everywhere. They are officially part of life in Europe. =)
