Hi travelblog people! (I also posted a simliar thing on another forum but not much response...). Basically I have never travelled overseas before and would like your help...let me explain my situation.

I just quit my job and have the entire month of Februrary completely FREE before I begin studying at university for 5 years...I figured out that I will probably never have time like this again and really want to see some of the world. I am 18, male and live in Sydney, and will probably be going solo unless I can convince a mate to come. My MAX budget is 5000 australian...that is like the total of all the money i own, so i cant go over this at all. I don't mind "roughing it" and want a bit of adventure in my holiday, and really want to see somewhere "different" in the world - some preferred destinations for me would be morocco, italy and japan.

So considering all these things....can anyone help me, please? I'm really bad at navigating the internet for deals and so on...can anyone recommend something? Are there any good destinations I should check out? Are there tour things for someone of my age and interests? Places to find travel buddies, or maybe just recommend me a cheap airfare? Please help me get off the ground asap! Reply to this

Hi Dave welcome to travelblog.

A couple of things to think about:

Working in US $ - Aus $5000 - is $4000 US

You want to go to the most expensive places - though a month is not long though - so if you can get a return ticket for $1000 you'd have enough for the $100 per day budget (just!).

It's winter in the places you listed - sightseeing in winter in Europe isn't as fun as in the spring or autumn.

You could go somewhere closer - and save a lot of money and enjoy the weather!

So what kind of things do you like the most? beaches, adventure activities, historic sites?

hmm... I would have to recommend going to Japan (although I'm basing that on the fact that it's the only place I've been to of those three) Japan is a wonderful country, with a wonderful culture, and equally wonderful people, although it can be a hazzle not being able to read kana or kanji. But hey, that just makes it more interesting when ordering food, doesn't it?

as for tickets, check www.flightcentre.com.au. Don't know if they're the cheapest, but they are pretty good.

Actually, if you decide to go to Japan, check jetstar.com instead. seems to be cheaper.

And oh, if you go to Japan I can strongly recommend going to tokyo and to the New York bar. It's on the 52nd floor of the Park Hyatt hotel in Shinjuku. Absolutely amazing place, a little expensive, but you get a full view over all of Tokyo. Absolutely breathtaking on a cloudless night. Reply to this
