Recently two of my favourite bloggers announced their marriage, read more here

Have you had a life changing event or even just a good opportunity present itself because of your travelblog?

(I know of a few newspapers finding writers through travelblogs, photographers going pro, and a new radio presenter!)

Ok Ali, I'll be first to "confess".

My first opportunity was to have several travel articles published in English-language newspapers in India.

The second opportunity was selling my photos for use in an academic article in Switzerland.

My third opportunity was to present a 45 minute travel talk-back radio show heard across Queensland in Australia.

There will be more opportunities to come, no doubt!

I guess I'm number two ... it's okay, I've been called worse.

Last spring I got a message on the site from an editor compiling a travel book about northern India. She's publishing two of my blog entries and invited me to write the epilogue for the book. Can't wait to see it in print!

Well, a Polish travel company found my last TravelBlog, and serialised it on their website. I got an email yesterday from a football magazine who found my new one, asking if I'd like to write some articles for them about games in Eastern Europe. And the "Expat" website of the country I'm living in at the moment has made a page for my writing. Again, thanks to TravelBlog.

I'm not a superb writer but it's very flattering - I'm one of those who has to know that people are reading! It's never any fun if you're just talking to yourself. Reply to this

Neat Topic, I actually do have a neat story. On a travelblog, I saw someone talkingabout getting money back from traveling! I got interested being that my boyfriend and I LOVE to travel. I replied to the blog on the site back before I was a member here and found out more information. Low and behold, I got involved with a company and now I too get paid to travel! We have been able to see a decent amount of the world! I thank God eveyday for the opportunity that he has provided me and my family and friends. Its fabulous. I was asked to submit my blogs for moleskinecity.com, and was interviewed for a New York Times features article on male masseuses! Someday, I'd love to write a book on my travels, so I'm using my blog to build up experience and interest. Reply to this

Thanks so much! I am happy to say I was offered the position. When asked specifically for some personal blog and travel writing examples, I linked to my Travelblog site, and I honestly believe that is what edged me out over the competition.

Obviously it was a lot of my other work that got me considered in the first place, but still it goes to prove you'll never know when a Travelblog might come in handy. So keep on blogging fellow travelers! It could very well be the start of something bigger.
