I'm planning a trip to Morocco next January, but I'm unsure about the time of year. Is this an okay time to go?
Also, how much should I budget? Is $50/day enough for accomodation, travel, food, etc? I hope to go for about 4 weeks throughout as much of the country as I can fit in. Any help information and help would be wonderful.
Thanks,
Cathy
Reply to this Hi cathy!
About the best period to visit Morocco, I have a council for you, try Summer, great period of vacancy, for January isn't very good, the climate is a little bit more cold (12°C) and the turistical activity is very low.
June, July, august and September are the best months to visit Morocco.
For the budget, Morocco is cheap, especially accomodations, for example, in Rabat, the Hotels are affordable, the same for food and transportation.
Be cautious with the unofficial turistic guide.
Good trip!
Reply to this Hello Breznev,
I do not agree with you. Summer is not the best time to visit Morocco and here are a few reasons why:
1) It is too hot and for most tourists coming to Morocco in summer, they stick to their air conditioned hotels and won't show up in the streets until the evening when it cools a little.
2) Summer is the high season so the prices go up. All hotels are fully booked, and rental cars are more expensive.
3) About 2 million Moroccans living abroad come to Morocco in summer for their vacation. Cities and roads are notably more crowded.
4) Morocco has a good weather all year round; warm and sunny. 300 sunny days a year is the average. I and my friends in Agadir go swimming in the ocean even in March!
Cathy, $50 a day can be enough if you know where, when and how to spend the money.
Cheers,
Abdou.
Reply to this Hi Moroccan guy,
If you don't agree with me, I don't agree with you, people are looking for the sun must visit morocco during summer.
During this period, the price tend to grow up effectively, but it's always cheap, only Marrakech is expensive, almost "out of reach".
January and Febuary aren't ideal, especially the cold, and influenza, one of our english friend caught a flu in january.
For swimming, people in europe can swim even in november!
For the rest, I agree with you, but let our friend to decide.
Kind regards
Reply to this I went to Morocco in early September. The weather is a lot like southern california, tolerable near the coast but too hot to go to the desert areas in summer or early fall. Summer is not the time to go if you don't like hot weather. On the other hand January might be rainy. Fall and spring are best.
