Anyone have suggestions to avoid getting ripped off when I arrive at the airport? I hear, by not knowing the insider tips, I may have to wait for hours to get my passport checked or pay way too much for a taxi. Is this true? If so, how can I avoid it? Reply to this

ROFL!!!! Oh GOODNESS, lol!! This ALMOST happened to me my first time in Mexico. I almost got into a taxi going the wrong direction, and he was asking too much. What saved me was a kind-hearted stranger who pulled me back and told the cab driver to go on. I ended up taking a bus. Reply to this

Hi! I don't imagine you will have any trouble at the airport. It is too busy for officials to be mucking anyone around. If there is a secret it is to keep your eyes open and get in the right line asap. First will be passport check so make sure you have your landing card filled out properly and fully. If it is not given to you on the plane ask for it...this will give you a head start anyway!
Next will be your baggage pick up...again find the right unloading strip/bay.
Adjust your bag straps or something as you approach customs....don't look at them enquiringly ....that's asking to be stopped! Don't hang around the area in front of any customs or other security checks. Head for the exit purposefully!
Outside there is an order to the way the taxis are assigned. When someone comes up to you tell him where you want to go and agree a price. If he won't give you what you consider a fair price then just say "no" and walk on to the next one...I guarantee he will follow you. Just keep walking until he comes to your price. If he doesn't keep following you ...you know you have reached his limit! Don't wait until you get to the taxi and don't wait until you arrive at your destination...I don't care what guide books say about doing this any other way....this is the way to get a good price in Egypt. If you want any more help...email me...I am irish and live in Egypt...happy to help...this is my hobby! Reply to this
