Big Chief Ali, sorry, I've got some more questions about TB front page. This time about my own entries. I found quite strange that my older journals made it to the front page while my latest entry (A confederacy of Smugglers) didn't. And do have pictures included. It has something to see with ideas not so politically correct contained in it? or do blogs get chosen randomly? or some sort of technical problem in the automathic system? or...?
Thanx
Marco

Hi Marco - there is a complicated algorithm that generates the front page listing - one of the requirements is that the photos have been added recently - so - probably the photos were uploaded a while ago - the article finished and published.

We also have a higher turnaround of featured blogs now... we're not about political correctness here... I hope everyone is telling it how they see it. Reply to this

Yes Ali, that s true. I had uploaded the pics a couple of weeks before I actually wrote the article (in order to remove them from my memory card and mail them home on CD). Glad to hear we have full freedom of speech on TB ;-)

I feel bad for nominating ourselves but I like to think theyre readable even if you dont know us. Not so much tales of travelling but more random thoughts evoked by funny experiences. I hope their good for a giggle. ageandkyminasia Reply to this

Conor, sken like a ribble fluke, cumberland sausage, bikepacker, kate hildebrant. I tend to read these on a regular basis. I like blogs with a sense of humor. Reply to this

This is a really great post! It would be nice if someone would setup a hierarchical social networking site for travelers. Categories could include: Backpacker, Round The World, Living Overseas, Finding Jobs, etc....If one already exists and I have somehow missed it please let me know.

A good question is, do you guys like Information Blogs, funny blogs, just great photos, or ideally, a little of everything?? What makes a blog from someone you don't know, stick out in your mind? As much as I like information, I think it's whatever keeps me reading. I've seen some great write ups, but horrible photos. Also some great photos, but barely any written information.

I agree. Some people sound too much like a guidebook, boring you with train fares and transit schedules, while others load you up with every single detail of their trip. Personally, I'm a fan of blogs with some humour and honesty. I tend to write about a specific event on that particular day, something that makes our experience unique. Then I recap the remainder of our travels with an appropriate amount of attention. My entries are long enough to tell an entertaining story, but short enough so your eyes aren't sore from staring at your screen for too long.

As for the comment in #28...I think a status indicator is a great idea. So when people see your homepage they can tell if you're back at home, on the road, living abroad, etc.

Safe Travels,

Bedreddin is a favourite. I enjoyed reading Yuki Jen in Iran as well.

I appreciate humour, definitely. The drier the better.

Am enjoying Jarrod and Gabe at the moment.... Bit more of a realistic view of travelling in a few of their articles...

Loved article comparing travelling and Jail... and the one on Morocco about trying to avoid touts by looking like you know where you are going 😉 Reply to this

How do you add bloggers to your favorites list? The instructions say to click on the pin on their homepage, but I can't find pins on any of the pages! : ( What am I doing wrong?
BTW- my favorite so far is WeBeSailing. I'm new to this place, so I'm sure I will have more! This is fascinating.

Are you logged in? - look over to the left of the page - just below the profile - before the blog list starts. It's red.

Welcome to travelblog BTW 😊 Reply to this

Have always been a fan of le_flow. The fairy and the farm story got a bit abstract for my taste, but he generally has good writing and photos.

Feel free to have a look at my stuff as well...I love increased readership.
