KLIA1 and KLIA2

Getting from one to the other, and the need to clear immigration
8 years ago, April 28th 2015 No: 1 Msg: #190467
I admit the maps and information I have found about KLIA have me baffled. Yes, I understand KLIA1 and KLIA2 are just two terminals of the same airport, but maps found on the airport's website label the buildings as "Contact Pier" Satellite Building" Main Terminal Building" and "Gateway @ KLIA2." I can't figure out which building is in which terminal.

I've read that the KLIA Express runs between KLIA1 and KLIA2, but it stops running at 12:30 am. My flight is scheduled to arrive at midnight, and if there is any delay, I won't be able to take the train. Is there another way to get from one terminal to the other?

Do I have to clear immigration to go from one to the other? I'm arriving on an ANA flight from Tokyo, and departing 12 hours later on an AirAsia flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Even though the AirAsia flight is an international flight, it looks like it departs from KLIA2.

I'm trying to figure out which hotel I can stay in to get a shower and a few hours of sleep. Any info would be much appreciated. Reply to this

Hi Karen,

There are always taxis as a back-up option and yes, you would have to go through customs again going from one building to the next.

As for where to stay -- if luxury isn't a must -- there's an AirAsia accommodation (Tune Hotel or something along those lines?) nearby that's very simple and when I last stayed it was quite affordable too.

Have fun!
