Hello Phoebe, welcome to Travelblog!

Your request was subject to some long discussions a few years ago, and it is very useful:

Volunteer Community/Aid Work

Volunteer - Without Paying for it.

The big issue here is to be careful of some (if not many) places offering Voluntourism options. Many will charge excessive prices, with these most likely to be based in Western Countries. Go direct to the source I say.

I have no experience in Southern Africa, but do of East Africa (where I'll be returning for my third visit next week). If you have more specific questions about that part of Africa, please ask me. Are you interested in safaris, culture, beaches? Reply to this

Hi Phoebe,

I used a company called Acacia Africa travel and they were great. Friendly and accommodating.

I have created an iBook, which documents my travels through Africa. There are plenty of tips, stores and photos. A great read.

Given tips are useful mate and i must appreciate you for everything that you have created. The thing i find reasonable personally is taking a buddy along you. Because that can really be a good thing to be experienced which makes journey even more memorable. Reply to this
