I think Turkey is one of the friendly places to travel as well. You should add Turkey in your list 😊

i have actually just been to Bulgaria (Sofia), and I think they have one of the friendliest locals around. For almost every time my friend and I took out a map, locals will stop and ask us if we needed any help, without us even asking! Reply to this

Yes -- I found the same, met some really nice people hiking and staying in huts in the Rila mountains.

It seems a large part of the report was addressing perceived concerns and tourism infrastructure, rather than the cultures reaction and openness to visitors.

I'm going out on a limb here but Denise and I agree:

Top of our list for friendliest (notwithstanding scams) has got to be: CHINA.

I have travelled in 16 Provences in China and only blogged a few of them and had meals and been to homes of the elite to the poorest of the poor.

Easy when you are friendly...the Chinese (in their homeland) reciprocate like no other. Reply to this

My answer would be a fully commercial answer as i have found those societies that are making their living off tourism so believe it is in their best interest to be helpful and show you things and ask if youre ok or invite you to their house, are the friendliest to me as as a tourist. So i think i put Thailand at the top of that list.

I've been to about 1/2 the countries on that list but dont remember any being standoutish on a regular basis. I think to count it has to be more than just one person or one experience, and more that you feel that every person in that country is delighted to see you and make sure you are enjoying their country. Although that has reminded me to make sure next time i see a tourist lost i stop and help them 😊

And probably the worse for us would have to be France where we were stereotyped and treated quite rudely, abused by a homeless man and staff and people seemed very unhelpful.

All again, just what i've experienced 😊 Reply to this
