Yo
So I am in Mandalay and had no idea how difficult finding accomodation would be; every where is booked. I finally managed to find a place here but now am looking for the next set in Sagaing where I hope to stay for a few days. Reluctantly I have a 2007 lonely planet guide book lent to me by a fellow traveller here but there is only one listing for sagaing - has anyone been there and can reccommend a place with phone number?

after that is Bagan. Lonley planet writers are really helpful here too with horrific descriptions of accomodation - waste of space. Anyone reccommend a place here too? Not expensive. The book says $12 for double rooms only to find the prices have jumped to $25....

any help would be wonderful, alo for the following; Kalow, Inle Lake, Hpa'aw and finally Yangon.

thanks

Jess, things should be better next week as we are getting out of Chinese New Year season....this can explain a lot of the jumping in prices...I've got few friends living in China who are for the moment in Burma, enjoying their CNY holiday break. Reply to this

I'm a bit hazy on the details but recommend "Mingalar Inn" in Nyaungshwe - from memory a double was about $12ish and the breakfast lived up to their self-proclaimed "best in Myanmar" - at least it was the best one we had!

And for Kalaw - I can recommend against "Golden Lily", which is where we ended up as they come down to the bus and drag you back there... The guys there were friendly enough until we arranged trekking with someone else (they put on the hard sell when we first arrived) and thereafter would barely even acknowledge our presence... They also slandered the other trekking operators quite a lot, producing documents alledging fraud etc.

If you go trekking from kalaw, I'd highly recommend "Uncle Sam" and especially his guide Tuinty (spelling?) who is amazing.

Hope that helps a bit
