Newcomer to the blogging atmosphere. Just wondering if I start blogging wouldnt i be better off just saving it and writing a book?

So i guess i wanted to tap the wealth of knowledge that is here. I am an aspiring writer (who isnt?) 😊 I want to contribute...but i wonder if i put my energy into this blog. Will i be undermining my book? If you have thought this or can see the naivete in my thinking could you please be a wise teacher and help me see the error of my ways. Thank you so much....

How do you mean 'undermining'? Are you writing with the intention to sell?

Either way, I think you'd write the book in a different format to the blog and you might find that blogging along the way is a good way to keep notes and also keep your writing hand in while you're away.

Remember that to get anywhere with the book you'll need to bring a fresh angle to it for anyone to be interested. So, you could write a blog as you go, documenting your travels and thoughts on the road, then take that work and re-work it into the finished product afterwards - they'll almost certainly be 2 different stories.

Surely writing a blog will raise awareness to your writing and attract people to publish/buy the book in the future? Reply to this

Thanks for the responses thus far.
@BnK - "Undermine" might have been a bad choice of wording. What i meant was it would seem that writing a blog would contain the very content that a book would contain. So my question was leading towards the idea whats the use in writing a book if it is all in the blog. However, I see now how they are different.

@Rat on the Road - Yes. That is true. Thank you.. Reply to this

There are some very good writers on TB. This is soon recognized and fellow bloggers encourage them to write a book someday. If your blogs receive the same accolades, then you are affirmed in your choice of profession. If they aren't...well, just start blogging. Reply to this

Good point Bob and Linda. Blogging will give you an idea of whether you are good at travel writing, before you give up things to try it as a career!!

Check out the Travelblog Hall of Fame . There are some really amazing travelwriters/bloggers in their to give you some inspiration!

Good luck! Reply to this
