Google is today featuring a doodle highlight East Africa greatest spectacle-the wildebeest migration -on its Kenyan home page(google.co.ke)
"This doodle is timely as thousands of wildebeest are currently crossing the famous Grumeti River between the months of June and August," a statement from Google read.
In what has been dubbed as the world’s greatest show on earth, the great migration takes place between the open plains of the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara, where thousands of wildebeest and zebras migrate to greener pastures as the seasons change and the circle of life continues.
From the larger swathes of the Serengeti plains in Tanzania to the colored hills of Kenya’s Maasai Mara, 1.4 million wildebeests and over 200,000 zebras and gazelles migrate in a clockwise fashion over 1,800 miles each year.
This is usually between January and mid March.
Besides the tourists that prepare for this spectacle, Africa’s greatest predators including crocodiles and lions closely follow the wildebeest migration, laying in wait for an opportunity to strike prey as they make their way into different territories.
Reply to this wonderful job done by google today, the masai mara remains one of the 7 wonders of the world.
Reply to this Went to the Google site today and it wasn't there - pity that I missed it! Agree with you, the Great Migration is certainly one of the most amazing spectacles in the world - was there last year and it would rate as one of the my favourite travel experiences.
