Visiting Cape Town f/ Indiana, USA

I am planning to visit CPT from the US Oct 13-Oct 28th 2011. I am 25 and looking to go shark cage diving, bungee jumping at Bloukrans, VA Waterfront, Table Mountain, Wine Tour, Two Oceans Aquarium, etc. I am trying to do this trip on a budget, so I'm not sure if I want to spend the money traveling North to get to do a safari. Any suggestions on hostels? Things to see and do? Is there any white water rafting close by? I am hoping to meet more people my age and be able to ride with them if we are going to the same destination, instead of paying $1200 USD to rent a car for the two weeks I'm there. Any ideas/suggestions/advice would be tremendously appreciated. Thank you in adance!

Cape Town Backpackers and The Backpack & Africa Travel Centre <snip>
are two great hostels. They are both near to each other and are in a central, great part of Cape Town.

At the hostels I'm sure there will be people who will be interested in doing the same activities as you so you can share the transport costs. Definitely do all the activities you mentioned, they are all great. There is some river rafting but the biggest rapids are class 3 (I think). There are better things to do and see if you're only in CT for 2 weeks. Paragliding is a suggestion, it gives you great views on a nice day. If you do the bungy at Bloukrans you will get to see the beautiful Garden Route. The bungy is probably about a 6 or 7 hours drive from CT so I recommend allocating at least 3 days to explore the Garden Route to and from the bungy. To find more things to do in South Africa, I like to use this <snip>

Once in CT, I recommend using Rikkis taxi service <snip>. They are cheap and reliable.

Thank you very much! This is extremely helpful! I've looked a little mroe into the garden route since the last time I posted. I think I'm going to go from CPT->Oudtshorn->Bloukrans->Port Elizabeth->Addo Elephant->Shamwari Safari. I've added cango caves, a safari in Shamwari, Elephant tour in Addo, Canopy Tour and Tubing in Bloukrans to the itenerary. My guide book suggested the Rikkis, but some people have said they are unsafe, so it's nice to know your opinion. I'll look into the hostels. Any thoughts on Forty8 Backpackers? Any more tips/advice/suggestions are truly appreciated! Thanks again Adventure88 for your input! Reply to this

It's a pleasure. Your itinerary sounds great!!! The Cango Wildlife Ranch in Oudtshoorn is worth a visit seeing as you'll be at the Cango Caves. http://www.cango.co.za/. I don't know too much about Forty8 Backpackers so I can't give you any advice there, sorry.

When you're traveling along the Garden Route it's worth taking a bit of time to explore a few of the places along the way. Take some time to walk around the waterfront and main strip of Knysna.

I can't think of anything else to add. There's plenty info online about the touristy things to do. If you have any other questions I'll try my best to answer them. Reply to this

Adventure88, how was your trip? My friend and I are planning a cage shark diving trip this Aug. We are trying to figure out what else to do while we are there. We are going to be traveling 8/21 to 9/1 but we are going to be with Apex Shark diving group til the 28th so we only have 3 days to advanture out. Our tour will start from CPT and end in Mossel Bay. We are thinking about driving along the Garden Route and stop by Kariega Reserve for safari. We dont know if we should do that or fly to Kruger Park for Safari either. How was drving in SA? Any tips and suggestions are much appreciated in advance. Reply to this
