I'm planning a round-the-world trip. 6+ months in developing countries, and i need a light and cheap netbook with wifi and webcam to write travel blog and email those travel photos home. and i choose an unfamous one online
Intel Atom D425 Mini Laptop Netbook
got a webcam and 10.2".very small
I don't know if we've talked about gadgets to carry around the world before, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Reply to this hi, we are at the same stage now, choosing the equipment so also counting on some advices ;-)

Reply to this On our 2007 trip around the world we took a 9" Sony vio and it worked great. It was slow toward the end of the trip because we had stored over 16,000 photos on it. Not the computers problem.
We now have a 13" MAC and are much happier with the product.
This is a choice you will have to make. Our recommendations are: keep it small and lightweight. As long as you are comfortable with it and know how to use it before you take off you will be in good shape. The thing I love about apple is they providing training on how to use the product-- $99 for a year. I've learned how to do some pretty cool things with the photos we've taken.
We are not familiar with the intel atom so we cannot make a comment.
Reply to this 9" Sony vio. oh, that is fabulous! and MAC is light and easy to take, and ipad is good choice too. and someone recommend me to buy the 1st generation Ipad, but i worried they are too expensive to be stolen. so i consider to choose a cheap one.
Reply to this The ipad is a fantastic product but you cannot store photos in it.
Reply to this yes i guess i should go to buy that small cheap one.hope it is in good quality.
Reply to this Same concern here. 😊
I'm torn between buying an android tablet vs. a cheap netbook. (My laptop's too heavy for long travels.)
Can photos be stored in other tablets?
Reply to this Hi Luna,
Welcome to TravelBlog.
Here's an earlier thread on netbooks:
The Ultimate Travel Laptop?
I have the netbook in msg#25 - it's worked out really well, and I wouldn't travel without it. I also use it alot at home - am right now actually :-)
One thing I noticed with the netbook you linked to is that the battery only lasts around 3 hours - could be a problem when you can't easily recharge it.
More than 2 usb ports would be handy as well - you'll probably be wanting to plug in multiple peripheral devices at times.

Pondered the same question for quite some time. Opted for a HP Mini. Battery life is about 6 + hrs, worldwide service, wifi & wedcam. Had looked at Ipad & various other tablets, but todate the netbook has been our best option.
Have been on the road for nearly 2 months, with another few to go & hasn't missed a beat.
Might I suggest you buy a decent external hard drive to back up your photos or subscribe to a web based storeage site, just in case.
Oh & if you do take a back up unit, keep in seperate from your notebook.
Cheers, enjoy your travels
Reply to this I've taken a similar netbook around the world a few times. Mine will even run Photoshop Elements without any problems. I usually take an external drive as well, the kind that are powered from the USB port and will fit in a shirt pocket. There are supposed to be some netbooks with duo processors coming on the market but I haven't found any yet, a duo processor is needed for things like Google Earth and other useful stuff.
Reply to this Nigwar,i agree with u that Google earth can be very useful when traveling.
